the only guy that got skills is the lame goalie nobody

Posted by LightsOut on Jan-25-2009 01:10:

yeah it was so disgustingly brutal...

if the players dont even take it seriously what does that say....

and Ovechkin, what a clown

Posted by T_ALI on Jan-25-2009 01:26:

lol, yea, they're not even trying. I don't watch basketball but always catch the skills challenge and I think that the slam-dunk contest is still way better than the break-away challenge.

why the f*ck is this game on versus??? what shit!! All the other all-star games get national channels.

I refuse to buy that channel because I get all my local sports teams via the local channels...... so I would have to buy Versus monthly JUST to watch games like the all-star game. such SHIT!!!

(I am guessing canada doesnt have this problem??)

Even the highlights from the All Star Game put me to sleep....the players don't try, the goalies don't try and its just not hockey.

I don't really see other sports genres giving it their all at the leagues respective all star games?

They played like there was something to win in overtime when the outcome was on the line. You can't ask them to go out to hit and check and possibly get hurt.

Sure I can....I can expect them to play hockey....If I wanted to watch a bunch of grown men play shinny I would go down to the local arena....and probably watch a better game. Considering they get paid to play in the All Star game I think people should get more then a bunch of guys half assing it around the ice. Personally, they should scrap the whole damn all star weekend....but the corporate schmooz fest is what the weekend is really about....not the fans.

Posted by Spin Laden on Jan-26-2009 15:15:

it's all about the Winter Classic now.

Posted by daves on Jan-26-2009 15:20:

that so-called game was a travesty and slap in the face.

the ONLY good thing in that entire 3 hours... was Ron MacLean interviewing Bettman!

Posted by devnull on Jan-26-2009 15:39:

damn lundqvist almost costing the game to the East!

Kovalev MVP ftw

Posted by tobywan on Jan-26-2009 17:24:

The 5 minute OT was the best part of the whole game, looks like they were actually trying...somewhat.

And goal of the game goes to Malkin, with that slick play through the legs.

I had my own all-star weekend!

That goal was garbage....the puck barely trickled into the net. If the goalie was even trying half assed he could have saved that.

I think the weekend went well overall.

and malkin's goal was pretty good - and no one was really busting their ass for the game.

and that is why the All Star game should die out.....nobody is busting their asses off. I would love to see the top players in the world play a real game.

The players are just assets for their teams now and the players and the teams don't want them to get hurt. To me that is just a bull shit excuse. They play 82 regular season games and players don't sit out one of every 4 games because they might get hurt. With the players they have at this game its not going to be a big hitting game anyhow. The players can play full out and still not make it a hard hitting tough guy game.

Posted by T_ALI on Jan-26-2009 22:18:

The all-star game was alright, but overall the weekend was very boring.

Why would you want something that's been a tradition in hockey to die out? a) makes the NHL money. and b) its the one game of the year when the best players come together, joke about, have fun, and show quality sportsmanship, rather then having to break each others teeth to win.

1. The modern All Star game is nothing like the traditional All Star game so really the tradition has been lost.

2. The Best Players (at least the ones that don't have mysterious injuries)come and give a half ass effort. If they actually played hard it would be a great game.

3. I could care less if it makes billionares more money. Its nothing more then an event for all the corporate sponsorship to send their big wigs to. The game offers nothing to the real fans of the nhl.

What they should do is make the All Star game the Winter Classic....at least then the players will skate to keep warm.

to have an intresting team, there need to be an intresting stake... there's none of that. Plus why would anyone risk to be injuried by playing hard!?!

It will never be as intresting as a good rivalery for example, its not supposed to be anyways. It's a marketing show.

Its not even really marketing...its a present to all the sponsors the NHL has...and a tool to get new sponsors.

I say make it interesting by having $20 million dollars up for grabs for the winning team.

Posted by Bertuzz on Jan-27-2009 01:10:

The NHL should consider having the All-Star Game outdoors at a big venue like Yankee Stadium at the beginning of January. It would kind of be like a Winter Classic/All-Star Game combination.

I think they should also consider having a Legends/OldTimers game rather than a Youngstars Game. The Youngstars is the WORST part of the All-Star weekend in my opinion.
