Love

I'm really pleased to get this kind of response on this, guys.

A big part of putting this together was me finally deciding I've taken enough time off from really pursuing gigging (real life beckoning, personal/family drama, health issues, etc.) and trying to develop a musical relationship with a place close to home where I really felt comfortable, and like I would be working with people who were on the same page as I. The owner really does have a knack for knowing what his clients want, and has done a good job of keeping a good percentage of his sound in the realm of commercial club stuff, which is a real benefit to someone like me trying to take it a little deeper.

In that sense, it's very much me trying for continue to forge my own sound while also trying to introduce that sound to a venue/audience on a pretty regular basis, with the obvious hope being finding the balance between the deep stuff and the clubby stuff, and having a mutually beneficial relationship borne out of the dynamic.

I'll say this much, it's rare that I've ever heard DJ's playing commercial club music with hip-hop (surprisingly good hip hop) that I really, really enjoyed - and even more rare that I'd say I think I'd do just fine opening up and closing down (playing 7 or 8 to 10 or 11, then 1 to close) for them, but that's definitely how I feel about both the current Fri./Sat. residents.

Anyway - bit of a rant there, but yeah - truly glad you guys are digging this. Makes me pretty satisfied to have you all, as well as the club owners/clientele really enjoying it.

Feels like victory.

Edit: Oh, and last Saturday one of the residents played about an hour and a half of EPIC classic Chicago/French house and Detroit techno. I never thought I'd ever hear anyone play "The Bells" in Appleton fucking Wisconsin.

Wow. What the fuck.

our boy keep evolving. my first impression is that its different. i got through about 45 mins today on my way to work (that's right, 45 minutes. i live 16 miles outside the city, and it's 45 fucking minutes because some snow fell... fucking shit!... /rant).

i was grooving though.

First off, fantastic opener Rob, it's ridiculous how good it is. Thank you very much for introducing me to it.

Like I wrote earlier on FB I really LOVED this set, specially the first half which is filled with ridiculously good music and flawless mixing as usual. My first impression is that this is very different from the sets you've posted here in the recent past which are more techno-ish. However, there are a few things throughout the mix which definitely remind me that I'm listening to Rob Turner. For example, you seem to have a knack for finding tunes with jazzy elements like "Sunday". I think this has become your "signature"

Once again, greatly put together mix and my only complaint is that it wasn't longer. Great job, and the best of luck with your gigs.

Haha - thanks Oscar, quite glad you enjoyed it, and that is some high, high praise.

In the end, I just play the music I like - it's an immense blessing that anyone else enjoys it at all.

Got around to checking it out today. The beginning and middle of the set are pretty solid. Transitions are great and overall programming/flow are ace. The track around 43:00 was tits but you lost me after that. I just cannot stand those straight on full vocal tracks at all. It just kills it for me and is a distraction.

You know how I feel about those so this is nothing new. Overall nice little set. Nothing groundbreaking or special in regards to track selection or technically, just a solid deep set for the win.

will check it out.

"PASS THE SOUP!!!"

ok, so gave this a good listen today. great stuff in general, the beginning and the end was tight. the middle had a section with some iffy or should i say looser mixing, it wasn't bad but it was noticable compared to other transitions in the mix. tracklist was nothing to faulter, the inclusion of the newcleus tunes was awesome.

Sunday (Sunday Skool Vocal Mix) and I Can Forget are the winning tracks. Loved those two.

thanks for the listen rob. wonderful mixing. it wasn't my favorite from you. aside from those two tracks I really didn't get into it. but, those two tracks are keepers.

Cheers for the listens and the kind words fellas. Glad to see folks enjoying this.

<3 Newcleus.

Out of curiosity, do you remember the "iffy" mixes? I'm definitely always trying to figure out what I can do better, from either a technical or programming standpoint.

And I may (or may not) turn this into a semi-monthly series of mixes somewhat broadly ranging in styles from downtempo/dub/ambient/trip hop/etc. to deeper house and techno, and maybe even a bit of hip hop. In general, just the kind of stuff I'm playing out and about during the early hours.

We'll see... just an idea at this point.

Awww, very cool.

I've always said the highest compliment anyone can pay me is to pass my music on to someone else, so thanks Oscar - means a ton to me.

And not to sound like a broken record, but I am really glad so many people seem to have enjoyed this.

Sexy. I love all of the jazzy elements you were able to incorporate

Listening right now...at Aria, need something to mellow me out so hopefully this will get the job done.

Excellent job, Rob... I think this is now my favorite out of all your mixes, due to genre preference. "Jam On It" was a great surprise and I've always liked Jaidene Veda more than your typical EDM female singer, so the Sunday song was great, too.

Sweet baby Jesus..great selection, spot on mixing, great job

Posted by Adam420 on Feb-10-2009 20:27:

Hey Rob just wanted to say that I enjoyed the mix very much! My only comlaint is that you restricted it to one hour length, I was left wanting more!

Posted by RJT on Feb-11-2009 03:12:

Thanks heaps guys - truly glad you're all enjoying it, and even more glad my penchant for jazz noises in my EDM seems to be enjoyed by so many others.

Really just stoked on the response to this.
