Smoking ..umm..something

I'm 17 years old, and i've been producing music for a year and a couple of months..
Because of my age the heavy gear is not in reach yet, but i guess i will buy it as soon as i can afford

Cool

I played for about 15 years in clubs in Los Angeles.
Now, I'm doing remixes and also doing sets for an underground trance radio station in Hollywood.

Just turned 16, been mixing for a few weeks now.

Still getting used to beat matching...any tips?

Posted by Leigh on May-18-2001 07:19:

Hello!

18 1/2... been playin since 15, been into the music since 10 or 11 - it was different back then - trance was actually 'trance' (as in psy trance & goa)... these days trance is classed as anything with a beat and a heap of uncoordinated synths shoved together with a break or two.

Posted by dj-luni on May-18-2001 08:13:

18 years and started 3 years ago
but i stopped spinning for a while cos of the little time i had

but i've started again since 2 months.

but in the time i stopped i got some contacts with some ducth top dj's

Posted by patticus on May-18-2001 08:27:

dj fien - the only tip would be practice practice practice... as soon as you get the hang of beatmatching you'll realize the immense problem of cueing (where to, how to tell, phasing in/out and stuff like that)

thats about where i am right now.
its a major pain in the ass, especially when i scratch over the beat (and normally when its an emphatic one) the stylus skips backwards.
i friggin hate that

Posted by DJ Fien on May-18-2001 16:13:

Thanks Patticus :)

I've actually gotten the hang of cueing (or atleast the basics) just simply from taping all my vinyls and listening to them whenever I can, but I still haven't praticed enough (I guess) to get beat matching down.

It may be my turntables (Numark TT-100's), but who knows

Posted by patticus on May-18-2001 18:46:

the thing is, everyone gets galloping beats once in awhile, and sometimes with certain tracks (or a shit mixer!) you cant hear the bass properly in the monitor, or its a slightly offbeat track. like man with the red face for example.

but do you have a solution to that skating problem i mentioned? when you find your starting beat and scratch over it (to make sure you have it), it skips backwards when you back cue?

Posted by ChooChoo on May-18-2001 19:00:

I'm almost 18 and i've been mixing vinyls for almost two years. But I need to get me some better turntables. I've reloop dd ones. Gotta go get me some Technics
