This kind of Airy pads?? Omnisphere or Atmosphere. My preference goes to the first as it's more complete. Pricey, but worth every penny as they even update the amount of waveforms like every quarter! (just got 150mb extra content here!)

Same here - isnt' Spectrasonics awesome?! Yeah, I'd also recommend Omnisphere, but any decent subtractive VA will get this sound. Albino 3, Blue, Gladiator, Z3TA+, etc. should all get you there.

FWIW, my attempt at it was just a couple of sawtooth osc's with some noise blended in, a little detuning and ring modulation and two filters run in series: a low pass with a little resonance, and a band pass with no resonance. The trickier part was the filter envelope and amp envelope. As mentioned, it could use some envelope tweakage and some phaser, but the sound isn't terribly difficult to approximate.

Hey Cryo - I know you know your shit and I'm not sure what DAW you fancy, but if you throw a Saturator over that via Ableton, select it as digital and widen it a bit you could probably fatten that wave up pretty good. Just wet it as much as you can until it muddles

I have owned a jv1080 in the past and can say this patch is most likely to come from a roland d-50. I had a d-550 (rackmount d-50) and there were tons of presets almost exactly like this.

The d-50 is awesome. Even when going through its presets you instantly remember famous tracks they were used in, even in trance. The pad tiesto used in his remix of derlerium - silence is in there for example.

Search roland d-50 or d-550 on youtube for sound examples.

Holy mother. I had glanced over Omnisphere before but took a closer look at it tonight. Is there anything better?! It's expensive as hell, but like you said, it appears to be worth every penny. It looks like a do-it-all MACHINE. I'd much rather spend $500 on something that has knobs I can turn, but this may be too nice to pass up.

I know this sounds like a complete noob question - but I couldn't find any specs on how the Roland D-50 interfaces. With it being from 1987 and all I am guessing MIDI I/O but just want to make sure. Surprising I couldn't find much about it online. Just threads people talking about how great of an atmospheric synth it is.

Omnisphere is simply awesome, there are no equivalent to it, its one of a kind.. and features basic waveforms from all analog and digital synths. (well mostly)

Only wish it were more responsive though, its kinda sluggish.

Hey Stephen, I use Sonar and I don't have Ableton. Feel free to grab the mp3 and process it as you described - I'd love to hear it!

You can probably make this sound with synth1, it would require a layer though, not that hard to make really.

Get a really soft bass pluck, and layer it with a high pass swell/wave, its a chord playing so unless you know it, it won't be exactly the same. And maby another layer for the house organ sound [you can probably put the bass pluck and housey organ sound together in one patch]

For sure z3ta can replicate it. Probably in one patch.

Slap a reverb and a delay on it.
