Bay is a real tech guy (duh lol) format wise they both gave the same output, however what you had to have and do to make them play was a pain, esp. HD-DVD which is why the format eventually lost me.

Picture wise I saw no difference between the formats with this release but soundwise I was really impressed with the HD-DVD release, no idea why, just packed a much bigger punch.

I might be wrong but here it goes. The reason for the HD-DVD format is that the disc itself allows for greater capacity, ergo larger files. The chief benefit of this is that the video and audio don't need to be compressed as much as a regular DVD. Less compression = better quality. Now you can trade that up by still compressing the video the same, allow a larger audio file, but have enough room still for more "movie extras" such as another version of the movie like a directors cut, or more "behind the scenes" footage.

LOL actually you compared this to DVD, which are worlds apart. But I know you know enough bout this stuff so I'll just consider it an honest mistake. HD-DVD as a media had less capacity than Bluray discs. The ammount of data for both high def formats was the same, however the soundtrack which was a DD+ 1.5 MPBS stream packed a mighty punch. The bluray format had TrueHD which allowed for more room of audio storage, which basically was a cleaner audio transfer from the track master and the focussed more to make it a directional track rather than a booming one.

I take that back...saw a more clear version of the trailer today. The big thing at the end had a fucking wheel for legs. That better NOT be desvastator!....if it is this Fallen character, it's still gay. He was bearly involved in any of the old stories. Not worthy of being the main bad guy in a movie.
