free well drinks i would pass on at this stage in life, maybe when i was an underage college kid, but those days have come and gone.

I've never seen anyone get this upset over an open bar.

im not upset, just dont mislead(circus did the same thing)
Vanguard does the same thing with valet parking.
must be an LA thing...

Posted by bas on Feb-05-2009 07:52:

I think it's more common for "open bar" to mean well drinks & beer than it is to mean anything you want, unless you're at a wedding. So maybe it's just a get your head out of your ass thing.

lol @ you passing up free well drinks because "you're not in college anymore" but still want a Long Island.

If the difference between going out for you is what drinks the open bar covers, you should maybe re-examine why you go out in the first place.

Posted by bigperf on Feb-05-2009 15:53:

you guys are idiots for taking everything ive posted out of context and making it an issue when it never was. the 2 most negative peole on TA award goes to you.

You begin to double team me with attacks on the thread, keep your double teaming to your DJ sets and the bedroom! leave me alone!

If you may recall I was the first one to start the thread on BT in LA and who was checking him out, and wondering if Lee was playing in the other room since someone said he was going to be in the honey room. This was before any gimmicks or promotions were even mentioned. Reason for going out this night is to check out Brian.

from the beginning it was all about getting clarification as to what was meant by the statement "open bar" since it seems everything that sounds too good to be true usually isnt.

College = less income, therefore not as picky about what i drink(affordability)
Present= Lots of income, therefore able to comfortably enjoy to spend for quality.

never said i wanted a long island, wanted the issue of what entailed the "open bar" and used a top shelf long island as an example. I could have easily substituted "grey goose tonic, or patron sunrise"

Who in their right mind would taint top-shelf liquors like these with mixers?

most club/bar patrons. for every neat drink with grey goose there would be a dozen mixed grey goose drinks.
next time you head to a bottle service area, check to see if the tables have any mixers.

No. See my post earlier in this thread.

Well then there you go.

Skip the crowded/cheap open bar (that's good for an hour anyway) and go get a drink at an emptier bar. Hassle saved.

Posted by bigperf on Feb-05-2009 17:23:

Thumbs up

right on the button Skizzell! less hassle/wait and more time enjoying the main room performers.
would have been a bit irritated to have to deal with a crowd to get to the open bar only to find out i was misled. would have been an inconvenience.

your post made me flashback to mexico and the $10 "all you can drink" gimmick. then upon arrival to the joint you find out there is only 1 bar with a couple of bartenders and hundreds of people with the same wristband as you. So you can wait 30 minutes for a little cup of crappy drink, or you can go to a cash bar and not wait whatsoever.

Sorry I was drunk. Enjoy your night on Saturday

the avalon guest list gets you a discounted price if you are there by a certain time (usually 1130 or midnite). if you want in quick, just by a presale - you will get in much quicker than the guestlist line (which moves slow) and most likely at the same price. you don't need to worry about 'guaranteed entry' as avalon lets everyone in willing to pay the cover as long as they are not at 100% occupancy....on the busiest nites its best to have a presale.

Posted by Clovis on Feb-05-2009 18:51:

Best way to go to Avalon is get on the Honey Room list and get there by 12.

It's almost always free...

Posted by Brian Scott on Feb-05-2009 18:55:

Too bad Avalon doesn't open til midnight this time around. the industry mixer beforehand is going til midnight.

i've come to assume that unless they specifically mention call-name liquors, that any club/bar advertising an open bar will ** most likely ** just be offering well drinks. or maybe you get say Absolut or Sky instead of Grey Goose...

the 1 time i was at Avalon when they had the open bar in the Honey Lounge, there was basically no extra wait to get a drink compared to normal.... you'll actually probably wait longer at the main bar versus the open bar.

i can't believe people are complaining about free drinks

Ah good point. Pay attention here, Avalon doesn't open until much later than normal. Maaayyybe a little earlier, but I doubt it.

Probably a little later, actually. They're expecting close to 1000 people at the earlier party. It's always fun trying to filter out a crowd of that size before opening the doors for the usual club crowd.

That's gonna be shitty, open bar is only until 1am "YOU GOT 20 MINUETS HURRY UP!"

Honey might open long before the mainroom though. I'll try and find out.
