KEEP THE CIGS THO.
What if someone was like I just wanna go some where I can drink and smoke and they have the choice of opera or the mark or something like that well that could be the deciding factor. Dumb I know but it could happen.
KEEP IT

Consider these issues with "outside smoking":
If you have a popular event, you're going to have a line. If you have a line, the entry will already be congested. Add more than half the attendees at any given time, and you have a mob outside the place. Now, say you have an issue in said line... someone has a fake ID, we'll say. Are you going to hold everyone outside until it is solved? The people who have paid want back in, and the people who haven't are wondering why there's a constant motion of people going in and out WHILE they're in line.
So... to distinguish who has and hasn't paid, are they going to use wristbands? I hate wristbands.
Now, take into consideration that smokers are social beings. One chick wants a smoke, three of her friends follow. While they're out there, they are joined by 5 or 6 other people they know, which staggers them longer, making it to where the club will seem empty at times cause half the folks are outside smoking.
... and yes, people will choose NOT to come if you ban smoking. I have friends who will not ride in my car because I don't allow smoking, so I'm sure there are people who would pass on spending hours in a club without smoking.
I honestly think smoking in clubs go hand in hand, unfortunately. Drunken obnoxious lunatics walking into me annoys me at clubs, but I doubt they'll ban alcohol anytime soon.
maybe a smokers only room? airport style. make the top bar for smoking and downstairs for getting your groove on. to maggie's point, the mark's layout doesn't work for outside smoking since there's only one way in and out. i'm still a fan of not smoking at all but it's a good compromise.
I like that idea. That way you can still hear the music as well

I do try to be as courteous as possible when it comes to non smokers around me by trying not to get smoke on them, etc..

I wonder if we can put up some plexiglass to make a partition in part of the side room next to the main dance floor for the smokers. Kind of like in the airport terminals.
It would be like a hamster cage for smokers! I think it would be kind of funny/cool. Put signs up that say
"don't tap on the glass it only upsets the smokers."

Stop being condescending for no reason.
The VIP area IS a tad large. I suppose some of that could be partitioned off.
lol this sounds like a petting zoo/too big of a deal, just leave it like it is.
Or make it non-smoking, but dont put the smokers in a little plexiglass room wtf
Gotta vote no smoking.. you smell like crap when you get home and your eyes are watering all night..
I'll pay a dollar more a drink to make up for it any day!
petting zoo, well sort of but I don't want to pet them and get that smell on me. Hence the hamster cage so I can watch with out smelling/touching, but patronizing, yes.
Definately for the smoking ban. I hate smelling like smoke. I don't see why anyone thinks it's their right to smoke in a crowded room thus bothering other people who may not smoke. Show a little consideration. If you can't handle walking outside or going a few minutes without a smoke, then that's a shame. There may be some people who decide not to come, but who knows, maybe some people will be attracted to the idea of a non smoking club.

| Originally posted by enydo I have no problem with stepping outside to smoke, but dammit if I miss something good inside I'm going to be pissed. I try to be as courteous as I can with cigarettes, I know most people hate them and automatically view people who smoke as "disgusting" so I try to be discrete, keep the cigarette away from people I know how annoying it is to get burned, and throw the bud in a tray or trashcan, I never ash on the floor Other than that I don't know what to say, I don't smoke very regularly, but I really enjoy my cigs while I'm out. I know that this argument is basically unwinnable being on the smoking side, so I don't think it's worth pursuing it anymore. Do what you gotta do, smokers are people too! |
yeah I would like to thank all the courteous smokers, I know I have been the most outspoken voice of the non smokers on this, and it really does steam me up. But I really do appreciate the smoker who actually thinks of others and takes it outside. That is all that is being asked by the non smoker. It's not a "smokers not allowed" not like your going to be asked to leave if you smell of cigs! We'll still talk to you, even go out side with you for company during your time of need. Can you feel the love? I think it's the piano Jazz I am playing!
When i drink...I smoke...
I say keep it the way it is.
If the non-smokers have that big of a problem with people lighting up a ciggy then oh well.
These are the things that happen in a clubbing environment.
In fact, a lot of people in this world who smoke take non-smokers into great consideration and smoke outside ALLLLL the time.
Going out to a club or a bar entails letting go. If i have to worry about another person's lungs I might as well stay in.... and that's not going to happen.
If people want to smoke, let them.
*rings a freedom bell*
As a smoker, I can honestly say I don't really care either way. I say keep it smoking if it's making you money. I don't usually smoke when I go to clubs since I don't want to carry extra shit in my pockets. If someone offers me one, that's different.
Something to keep in mind is the stupid fucking laws they're trying to come up with. I recall them trying to pass something saying you can't smoke in public... as in outside.. of a venue. If you get my drift..
nvr heard that one as in public, as far as I know it was in pubic as in a venue, and you have to be 20 ft from any entrance to smoke. That's the Law in Gwinnett. The only enforcement I have seen is in the way of health dept. They just check to see if you have non smoking signs, or they take a point off your score. I guess if someone complains then there might be more enforcement. But that is all I have scene.
as for the freedom bell,
I am all for freedom, liberty ... But when it makes others sick, hence infringing on there freedom, well that's a problem. I'll repeat my main point. Were talking about a nightclub/bar, not a hookah bar or smoke shop. It's not even legal to light up in smoke shops, since they don't card you on the way in! If the Mark had easier access for smokers to smoke outside I don't think there would be much of a discussion personally. I understand especially when it's cold about the smoking, but seriously, do you smoke in your house? I can't think of a single smoker who smokes in there house any more since they don't want the smoke smell and stains of the walls in there any more. Something also to think about, smoke stains the walls. I think a happy medium could be met as in a smokers lounge, but don't know how hard/costly that undertaking would be. Again I would be pleasantly surprised if, "my wildest dreams come true"!

It's rather hilarious how much my English is more refined when I type versus my conversational spoken word.

Not going for Dorothy from the wizard, don't know where that idea came from.
