Yeah there's a lot of recycling going on but most of us just bite past that and look further until we find something we like. It doesn't change a thing to keep complaining. And again, I mean that in the nicest way possible.

I dig deeper all the time. I'm just trying to wrap my mind around why no one else seems to. That's all. Can someone explain?

No you're wrong, I feel you man. I'm sick of a lot of sounds too, you just don't see me bitching about it all the time. If you check my last two mixes for example (the one in my sig and Nancy) you wont find any of the standard tech house sound being played right now. At the same time I can't say I dislike it as a whole and complain all the time because I still dig a lot of the stuff coming out from the realm and there is a lot to be explored, ie Wolf + Lamb, Spectral and Circus Company at this point for me, all known labels that give the genre a good name IMHO.

The problem with some people is that they just become too comfortable with the sound and jaded and they forget that EDM is about pushing the envelope and keeping it fresh.

edit: and remember 90% of everything is shit. It's all about digging so stop being so fucking pessimistic.

Actually, I have a more recent and relavent example: Solarstone's Electronic Architecture comp.

Those guys looked around for new and different producers on off beat labels releasing a different type of sound than asotrance which is what they were normally lumped under. It was a really good trance comp and I feel it's because they brought something new to the table rather than play an Armind track two months before it's released.

Maybe I'm an elitist prick, but I want djs to put more effort into finding music I don't know by artists I don't know and help me branch my tastes outward.

Posted by Ted Promo on Jun-02-2009 04:20:

And the reason why I complain? I'm on a forum where you're supposed to voice an opinion.

And because no one else seems to complain, so I will in their stead

Voicing your opinion and restlessly complaining, despite all evidence, have nothing whatsoever to do in common.

What evidence? There's no evidence that this comp was lazily constructed by tracks that are from Black's friends

I don't come on here wondering if my posts are going to appease some kid from Jersey who plays underground house music in someone's attic just like I don't expect you to come on here wondering if your posts are going to appease some 23 year old fag who looks like a 13 year old girl who plays dick pumping neo-classical. Close the window and move on

I was being sarcastic, but fair enough let's move on.

Maybe I expect too much but I thought Holden branched out quite a bit with his At the Controls and now it just seems like everyone is jerking each other off to make a buck rather than crate digging and being innovative .

I dunno, maybe I'm just sick of edm

What Konrad does - does not compare to any of the crappola put out by the big trance dj's.

You are saying he needs to be innovative and you gave the example of that Solarstone shit cd. Not 1 name is recognizable and for a reason.. it sucks. Sucks so bad that he had to release a compilation cd because Rain Stars Eternal blew massive loads a few months prior.

I need to check this comp out.

My bad - 1 name is recognizable because he posts in the COR. that's all.

That Solar Stone cd was not bad at all. And yes, you can compare the two different types of DJs because they are both DJs who play dance music.

Sorry, but this makes you sound like you have no idea of what you're talking about.

rain stars eternal had 1 good song on that cd and the one after only had one good song from Stan Void.

I just don't think that is a good example of being innovative and it actually working.

watergate 2 was awesome, will check this

Mel, you're just a Konrad whore

I like Konrad, don't get me wrong. His show here back in February was the tits. It doesn't change the fact that this cd looks uninspired. Studio comps should be about taking risks and playing stuff you wouldn't normally play imo. Kinda like Zabiela did on disc one of his new Renaissance. The artists he used on that disc weren't necessarily unknowns, but they probably were to a bunch of Zabs fans, and he introduced them to new stuff like a dj is supposed to.

Maybe this is supposed to be a cd of his club sound and it's just as simple as that, but if I wanted that I would go to a show of his. I know it might sound pretentious and self-centered, but I want people to take more risks on studio comps since you have time to crate dig, find untouched stuff, or bring something new to your listener base rather than punting the same six guys you have been in every set across the world.

While I agree with you about studio mixes being the time/place to get freaky with your collection...the Watergate series is meant to promote Watergate as a club in the same way the Fabric.Live series is meant to push Fabric as a club...if you'll notice the regular Fabric comps tend to be the ones where the artists get "daring".

With compilation CDs it's all about platform. If you want to see DJs get interesting check out the Choice or Back To Mine series....they need more of those imo.

Posted by Ted Promo on Jun-02-2009 17:37:

Even if it's a club promotion comp it looks lazy though. I've seen plenty of Fabric comps where they played some stuff you wouldn't normally hear from them.

Blahblah I'm an asshole and should probably just let up but it just seems like everyone has been getting lazy

Don't get me wrong, I think Konrad's an alright guy, or whatever his real name is, cba, I'm just saying, doesn't it get boring?

I've noticed it in every genre, the sets all contain the same sounds and they all play their friend's and labelmate's tracks in some giant techno reach-around. I'm not JUST blaming Konrad, I'm blaming lots of people. And maybe it's not a bad thing, maybe it's just the way it goes, but I looooove looking for shit and playing whatever.

Maybe I'm completely off-base too, and they're not going at it with the mentality I think they are and I'm just spouting complete bs conjecture, but it sure seems like they're doing what I portrayed most of the time.

I was joking, Adam.

You're definitely correct about them not digging deeper, but I've never had a problem with it. Good music is good music.

I'm gonna go see Konrad Black at Watergate in June

Posted by shotcolin' on Jun-03-2009 23:35:

Konrad Black is the fucking man....

Posted by LoveHate on Jun-04-2009 02:12:

just took a listen.

yeah its dope, its pretty trippy music all around, was just left with a feeling that he could have done way more.

the covers nice.

Posted by enydo on Jun-04-2009 06:27:

Ok so... yeah. Was decent I guess, some nice tracks in it that I'll be picking up for sure, but as a whole it was definitely lacking a bit. After the first track the beginning section did really nothing for me at all, after about 30 minutes I started really enjoying it.

Just felt a bit dry all around, I dunno.

Posted by elFreak on Jun-04-2009 06:31:

konrad is an awesome producer, a great canadian export and so on, but like ted said he needs to go deeper if he is going to release a dj comp imo. I would much rather see an artist album then a bunch of tracks i already know.
