The only place in which so much negative discussion of music comes up for me is TA, and sometimes, at festivals or big parties where shit is being played and you happen to walk through it.

I don't know how from a few posts on a message board people deduce that my entire view of music is mostly negative. It's really far from the case. And theres far more discussion on here from me about music I do like than music I don't. 2000 and One happens to be someone I usually like, so when I see an album by him, I'm likely to check it out and pass judgement on it. I'm not the only person in this thread who wasn't into this, and hopefully there won't ever be a time on this forum in which every single thread is 100% positive reviews only.

Your rant reeks of the same thing every single rant of the exact same nature before it has. Insecurity. My opinions, as you stated, have 0 impact on this music. All it means is that some people will read that I don't like this vs. all of the other music that I post about and enjoy (check my post history in this forum). So really, it shouldn't bother you much. Personally I like to see differing opinions, including jubilant, lukewarm and downright negative, from people on the forum because over time you get and interesting idea of each person's individual music taste. There are people on this forum, and I'm sure you probably fit the bill, for whom this music and all music consumes most of their daily lives. We are naturally very opinionated and the variety in those tastes is what makes the forum interesting to me, including the fact that I can disagree strongly over some things with my friends in one case and be on the same exact page in excitement on the next.

So, relax man. I apologize if I come across too strongly, it's not easy on the web.

Well the benefit of talking about music you like or music that is good is that you might put someone else onto some good music, and in turn they likely return the favor and put you onto some good music. That's the best way for taste to evolve without any inhibitions. That is exactly how i've discovered a lot of great music. Talking about music that you dont like really doesnt benefit you or anyone else. Again I remember very few conversations about music that I dont like outside of a forum. Maybe thats something a forum affords us but its not really a benefit of communicating on a forum about music either. Clovis I know you have good taste in music already, I like many of the tracks you have posted about. What im saying is not science, just an observation of the culture on forums in comparison to music appreciation culture in real life. If you walk into a record shop, and you have a relationship with the owner after being a regular there, your likely asking about "whats good?" and you get shown the good stuff. You dont really walk in and says "whats bad?" Imagine a record shop owner spending time talking about "this is shit" everytime you walk in there.

Anyhow, I think we've both made our points, you don't have to reply, since im not really trying to change you or win this debate, just pointing something out. Cheers!

Bad criticism is just as valuable as good criticism. People just don't do it as often in real life because it's harder to say bad things face-to-face.

TA has been way worse in terms of over-the-top negativity and seems to be back to an acceptable, balanced level; this thread isn't even anywhere near the extremes we've seen here in the past, so I have no idea why have you picked up on this.

Negative critique has its value but its nowhere as valuable to a music culture as Positive critique is. You gain less from participating in negative critique, and gain more by participating in positive critique of music. In principle, if you are recommended a lot of good music you are more likely to find a piece of music you will like, if your time is being spent listening to people talk about music they dont care about you really dont gain anything. They're not saving you any sort of time either.

This thread is just a piece of a more questionable pie, the music appreciation culture of TA, there is something very unnatural about it. You might be conditioned into the culture and its become normal, but look outside of TA at real life situations, or at any other hobby culture in real life and you will see that art driven cultures never have evolved in the way it evolves here. Not asking anyone to change their conditioned habits, just making an observation. That said, I enjoy many aspects of TA, there is a wealth of knowledge amongst the users, many many very sharp clued in people individually.
