Since my first rave in 94 - this event, I will easily place in the Top 3

Opulent Temple was that AMAZING!

Great seeing those from here =)

I'm in such awe of this night

This event really did capture the vibe from old raves from the 90s, with modern brushstrokes of today's current and different scenes

The vibe was fucking GREAT!

Thank you so much for all the kinds words you shared with about myself and nice meeting some of you for the first time.

I had rockin fuckin time weaving that crazy dancefloor of artwork and dancers into a hypnotic and twisted set.

This night made me happy

I AM SO PROUD OF EVERYONE AT OPULENT TEMPLE FOR MAKING THIS NIGHT HAPPEN

You're such a dedicated family to love. It's awesome

I was looking forward to this event so much. I even lined up my trips to LA to be sure I was in SF to go to this, but am dealing with family emergency stuff and ended up flying back down to LA during mid-week.

Hope to see some amazing pics. It was gonna sorta be my going away party, but guess I will have to cram all my goodbyes between the clubbing folks and old workmates into next weekened

lol @ everyone who stayed home... that was one of the coolest fucking parties ever! EVER. the music, the energy, the crowd, the environment, holy fuck the environment--everything was amazing and uniquely so. i wouldn't even know where to start, you can't really explain the vibe that emerged from that music with that crowd in that environment. i say this all being lightly buzzed to sober most of the time, having just a few shots and a few beers at the beginning of the night and then some bowls later on. the party should have never ended imo. i will just say this though, the music was nonstop goodness, beginning to end. so was the hotness of the crowd. god damn that was a hot crowd.

haha i'm sitting here laughing my burner ass off at all you people just realizing we have the best fucking scene anywhere in this country

great. fucking. party.

homourbourous room was the best music all night. got there early to catch my friend jonboy's set. caught the end of floorcraft's set in the deep end. wandered for a while then ended up in the main room right before the start of carl cox's set. we put up with it for about half an hour before we decided that it was a shame but coxy just wasn't playing that great a set (it happens) and it was a bit too crowded with fur and leather for me. went back into homourbouros and got met with slamming breaks from aaron jae and smoove, caught up with a friend and we danced like crazy for a while. then we went over to the opulent temple room where cosmic selector and then dulce vita were giving us everything they had. holy fuck that room was beautiful. met some great people there. ended up back in the main room for a while, it hadn't gotten much better so we left again relatively quickly and finished the night dancing in the deep end.

usually i hate big parties and the main reason i went to this one is because i had so many friends who i wanted to see there. music wise, carl cox was disappointing but luckily we have local talent in san francisco that puts headliners from around the world to shame and they tore it the fuck up. i had no problem finding music i loved at any point in the night. other than giving carl cox his chance i mostly avoided the main room. it was too loud, there were way too many ravers and hardly any burners, and the music wasn't very good. and just like on the playa, if you don't like it you leave cause you'll find something better no problem. the decoration of the place was pretty awesome. the homourboros statue itself is fucking cool, wish i had seen it on the playa. serpent mother as well, though it wasn't lit thanks to the hangar's wood construction.

and all in all it was fucking fantastic. my friends were there and we all had a great time. i met a bunch of people and danced with friends i rarely see. super well decorated and it had a room specially designed to attract all the ravers and there was always good music to be found. huge props to the organizers and to the volunteers who set it up and cleaned it up and worked the event.

Hell yeah, what a freakin' wicked party last night~! I've been to most the massives/raves since mid 2007, and this could easily top them all. Ya, I'm still noobie.

The scene, the vibe, the art, the music, the people and on and on are way above my expectation. Gotta give props for the people for making the freaky monkey go around and the crisp bass heart bumping and light show setting in the main room. They are amazing!

I hope there are more events host at that beautiful perfect location as well. And 21+ is the way to go~!

wasn't last bm your first?

i've been to bm parties in sf before, have heard a majority of the djs on the bill and enjoyed them all, but none of the past experiences hold a candle to friday night's festivities. there were several djs i wanted to hear in the other rooms, but i just couldn't bring myself to leave the main room the entire night. halfway into syd's closing set, complete exhaustion had set in--as i made the mistake of hitting the gym earlier in the day on top of working several hours lifting, building and cleaning in the hangar--so i was ready to pass out. i made my way into the front room to leave around a quarter to 4 and the music in there was rocking. still couldn't bring myself to exit the building. i ended up doubling back and hearing the rest of syd's set. i don't regret the volunteering part because i ended up getting a crew wristband that allowed me access everywhere, including the catered food/drink room (score!), but i do regret not being more proactive about getting all my friends to come out, and being severely underdressed the whole night (not realizing until meeting up with alain right before that this was going to be a full-on bm-themed costume party).

some crowd shots from mv gals....

ya i thought i was over raves after my first skills experience, but this is one case of an enjoyable rave without all the overwhelming ugliness associated with modern day raves (no k-tards, e-puddles, zombie teenies, light shows, pacifiers, sweat, bo, rude people charging through the crowd, etc)... and i'm not a big fan of lasers, but those lasers were pretty fucking cool.

last BM was indeed the first i actually attended but i had been involved with the burner scene around here for a couple years by then. almost everyone i know in the city (minus some of my friends from Stanford) and everyone i've been partying with since i moved out here is a burner. it was instant recognition that this scene is something truly special and we are lucky as all hell to live here and be part of it. i'm just glad people are getting on the train.

i see. well burning man is next on my list of things to do if i can't afford brazil by next year. i was gonna go this year, but miami came first since my last miami trip was so whimsical that i didn't plan for any of it. i'm going after the full spectrum of dance music culture, city by city, year by year... plus i'd like to drag as many of my friends along for the ride, which will take some convincing

progressiveMOJO, you're not the only one who has said Cox sucked that night. To each his own and wish I could of made this but oh well

a couple of my best friends that live in sf went to this, said it was off the hook. I wish we had more mature raves like this down here. Its either kiddies or giant village, neither compare really...

What an amazing and awesome experience on Friday! From the second I walked through the door I was blown away by the setup, production, art, music and people. Got there at 10:30 and the party was already in full swing. The party was held in a huge hangar but it felt like you were a world away. To me the people made this party fantastic. The burner crowd brings the most friendly, most crazy, and hottest people in SF. Easily one of the best massives I have ever gone to. The vibe and energy the entire night was through the roof.

Nasty set by Alain, really got the crowd into partymode. First time I got to hear Carl Cox and I liked it. His hard techno style coupled with the crazy bass was nuts even standing in the middle of the huge hangar. I was pretty tired after his set, but Syd's banging closer kept me there til the very end.

Everyone who didn't make it, definitely missed out big time. Props to the Opel crew and everyone involved with making this party happen. I think this solidified me going to Burning Man as soon as I possibly can. I have great some vids of the night that I will be uploading this week. And this party definitely confirmed that burner chicks are the hottest women in SF.

Posted by progressiveMOJO on Mar-10-2009 02:29:

it's not that carl cox sucked, he just wasn't anything special (having an off night i guess cause i've seen him before when he's played a great set) and there were other dj's at the party doing a lot better. which once again is more of a shout out to our local talent being really fucking incredible than anything else.

Posted by R!CH on Mar-10-2009 03:42:

carl cox's set wasn't anything amazing, but it didn't ever drag and the crowd was with him the whole time, which was reason enough for me to keep frolicking around in the main room all night. there were just so many spots from which to enjoy the scenery... the front, the back, the sides, the balconies, the wagon, the middle, the flamethrowing thingamajig, backstage... you get bored with one spot, just walk a few feet in another direction. and every once in a while he'd drop a track i really dug. i mean we've all heard better sets--comparing similar formats sasha & digweed @ giant village comes to mind--but a better overall massive, i don't think i've been to.

I can only assume you're saying this based on this event, but along with the fact you posted the last burning man was your first one and been involved with the burner scene around here for a couple years?

It's stereotypes like this is why SF scene is so divided in other times, this is no different then what people negatively say about : Househeads, 1015, Ruby Skye, Burners, Ravers, whatever. Personally this isn't how I see people. These are labels I hear so I'm pointing them out here for their existence.

Simply put if you listen to Electronic Music of any kind, you're a person worth acknowledging when it comes to music.

In any case you went to Burning Man once, been involved a couple years with Burners and now you're posting "all you people" as if you have some sort of ability to judge that it's the best scene ever?

Wow you went to Burning Man last year for the first time. I went in 1999 when sound camps were nothing near the capacity of Opulent Temple. This whole Burning Man scene craze is just something of recent decade along with the big sound camps.

I've read many of your posts including this one. You swear SF has such a massive scene that every stereotype is in their own corner. Our culture is extremely small compared to other cities and we don't have that many venues.

I'm pretty confident I attend more different events on a weekly basis than you and most people on this board. My reason for pointing that out is?

I've been seeing the same people for years whether it's Armin Van Buuren at Ruby Skye, Taj's parties at 1015, Triple Threat's parties at Milk, Cut Chemist at The Independent, Lee Burridge at Compound, Mike Relm at Mezzanine, Vau De Vire Society at DNA, whatever

It's a shame that your way of seeing Opulent Temple's Massive as a judgemental effort of labeling burners as having the best scene - where I see it as Opulent Temple successfully breaking every stereotype by capturing the unity and spirit of San Francisco's Dance Culture.

In reality this event really was no different than 1000 raves that happened in the early and mid 90s. What made it so special is that it captured that energy in a modern time while uniting different kinds of people. Along with the fact the production was amazing.

All you people? Please I'll put money down against anyone that more than 70% of that crowd on Treasure Island has been to Burning Man more than you, has been involved in this city's dance culture longer than you and goes to more different parties than you.

Everybody was there. We're not just realizing it, you're finally just catching on is what it is.

Before you even care to respond just know on another forum I've already stated in the past 5 years alone

From a personal and professional standpoint - aside from Lovefest, this event was the best one hands down when it comes to electronic music
