Israel basically has a seat on the Security Council. It can do anything it wants. I think the UN should fix the Security Council 'no veto' clause to provide for a way to override a veto. But it should only be for the case in which there is just one veto out of the 5 permanent members.

I don't think there's any disagreement about the need to reform the voting structure of the Security Council, though I'd only point out that Israel is by no means the only (or best) example of a country having a de facto veto. Look how helpless the SC has been in addressing human rights issues in Burma or Sudan.

This is an excellent summary of issues related to reform (including enlargement and democratization of the Council) and is a definite must-read for anyone interested in debating the efficacy and relevance of the Security Council or the United Nations.

Our culture has been declining for a while now.

Check out Tainter's 'The collapse of complex societies'. So far the best part of it has been the description of the Roman decline.

Mysticisim is usually cited as a sign post for decline / comming declin. I don't see why the religions of today won't be the mysticisim of the future.

I don't agree with a ban but I do think it's a good idea to be civil and to avoid provocation for provocations sake.

The UN does it's job, it established international consensus.

Don't you see something as drastic as a gag order a step towards mysticism? Maybe even a gigantic leap? This is agenda-based censorship. Not merely a deference for the sake of peace and order (yeah right), but a supposedly enforceable edict on saying things. I agree that it should not be in a nation's stated interest to combat religions with military force, but suddenly insult is outlawed?

As a Pastafarian, it is well within my religious right - no, duty - to slight people of other older, more established religions. The UN is suppressing my particular right to practice my religion, thus insulting me!
