Nothing wrong with finding similarities, and they exchange tracks from time to time, but while Lawler will stay on the dark side of house, prog and tribal... Erphun a much more powerful, techno, raw side. Some of his productions are way, way harder and intense than anything I heard Steve play.

I've heard plenty of Erphun's promos, many of which have lawler tracks in them as well as Audiofly tunes. Not to mention tunes Lawler is also playing.

It isn't apples and oranges. He's tight with Lawler and while he obviously plays differently they are part of the same web of EDM to me.

to be fair though, i think 08 was the year where lawler got back to basics and started making and playing good music again.

it was nice, because for a few years i was wondering what the hell was wrong with him, no longer.

I wonder if you are calling good music what he is playing right now in 2009, which to be honest I do not like as much as what he played in summer-fall 08....

Posted by elFreak on Feb-23-2009 16:09:

yeah, well you are new to electronic music...pre 2003 lawler = massive.

then he started playing boring ass "electro house".

he re invents himself every few years, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I went to see him in Seoul just because i needed a good night out, i went in expecting to be meh, but he brought it!

Posted by muffinass on Feb-23-2009 17:58:

great booking - i've been following Erphun's releases for a while (esp. his butterfly releases)...

...but any chance of a future Toronto-appearance?

*i can just see how well an Erphun set would go down on Skybar in the summer...

Posted by Ravemontreal on Feb-23-2009 18:46:

Actually Erphun's booker is looking at Toronto options as we speak for Saturday night. So if somebody wants more details they can write to me about it.

Posted by breakawayj on Feb-23-2009 18:54:

Footy would be a great venue for him on the Saturday.....

Hmm he plays really tribally now, lots of drums... Not the deep tribal like Vibe and D-formation play, but the Lawler kind I guess... Personally I don't enjoy it, maybe I just need to see him live to get into it...

I liked it when he was playing more techno, tech-housish.... Stuff Like

Cirez-D Stockholm Marathon
21st Century Ketchup
Grindhouse...
Diablo...

Lawler is not into tribal as he used to be. As you said Light out is good exemple. Dark drum too.

It's about results, not CDs or softwares.

Also talked with Erphun, and he is really excited about coming here, I told him how awesome the crowd was, and how Montreal is very unique, we are all pumped for this.

Oh and Lawler Lights Out 1 CD 2 my favorite eva!

Posted by Ninja Francis on Feb-26-2009 03:57:

Only reason I love Serato is cause of my 5 seconds memory. Otherwise I hate the lag on my CDJ800s and I'd rather stick with CDs.

Posted by zeKsg on Feb-26-2009 07:19:

I think I will be there....

Posted by Ravemontreal on Feb-28-2009 22:15:

Well, it's now official, and i'm excited like a 12 year old girl... I'm going nuts with my new set-up.

Next Friday will be a great night, because we have an awesome guest, awesome crowd, and wait till you see and hear what I have in store for you.

So get out of that winter blues, we will bring some sunshine from L.A ;-)

Posted by Ninja Francis on Mar-01-2009 04:03:

I'm ready to slash the dancefloor with your fat-gory sound.

Posted by Ravemontreal on Mar-04-2009 16:04:

Don't forget to send me, or Francis, your full names by Friday night to get your reduced ticket...

See you soon!

;-)
