I recommend Ad Aware
a really good program that deletes all your spyware

Agreed.. before I got rid of Gator I could only open up one IE window at a time - any more and IE would lock up.

OK LISTEN, you don't have to stop using AG just coz of Gator.

I, being the genius that I am, have found a solution to the problem a few days ago. I went into task manager (winxp) and found the files Gator was using. Then, I narrowed down the file location to Program Files/Common Files directory. Go into that directory, and delete folders associated with Gator. The ones I deleted were GTA and CMEII. CMEII was using the file named CMESys.exe and first you had to 'end task' on that file in order to remove it. Same goes for the files GTA was using.

Enjoy!

thanks for tryin to help out and explaining.
But i cant seem to end task of the CMESys file... how do i do that?

I deleted the Gator.exe ... and I ran ADAware, should that be enough?

spyware has evolved and now as well as spying on what you do, it "borrows" up computer power as well.

get the spyware free version of ag that Kamaya mentioned, i run it, and as well as being spyware free it looks cooler to

LEXMARK

on the topic, another spyware program that i was a little surprised about is the one that LEXMARK printer drivers installs... it took me a while to figure out how to get rid of it properly (regedit, startup app changes, and deleting didn't work. apparently this file respawns if you delete/rename it).

anyways, if you have a lexmark printer, you probably have spyware. look for LEXPPS.EXE. do searches on google and google groups for more info.
