Agreed, but I am a little bias.

I leave my phone on, never know when an emergency will happen.

ditto.

though the occasional text or voicemail at some ridiculous hour from a sloshed friend at a party is sometimes quite amusing

my phone is always one.

but usually on vibrate. so if i'm sleeping, i normally don't hear it.

Posted by Zentac_75 on Feb-27-2009 02:46:

I rarely answer my phone. I use it to bother others when I have nothing important to do. When I'm busy, it is still on but I let the answering machine deal with the calls.

Jon, when I skimmed through your post earlier today I thought you were complaining about people sending texts to you in the middle of the night.

I have a few memories of you not going out to a party and people messaging you (I think one time it was Ryan) and then you getting really pissed off, hahahaha.

Posted by PurpleHaze on Feb-27-2009 04:21:

My phone is on 24/7, for any reason to occur I guess.

I don't seem to get many calls or texts overnight during the weekdays so I don't really care (the odd one here and there...). Maybe I'm just not popular enough LOL

During the weekends if I'm partying I leave it on all night, if I stay in and want to sleep in I put it on silent and will answer when I wake up

ah yes... that was likely the learning curve I went through and I'm now trying to share w/ others my sage experience...

even now I'll wake up on sunday afternoon and have 3+ txt msgs talking about how great such & such party is, or how insane zone is lol

Posted by Stilez on Feb-27-2009 04:56:

Phone is always on. Txt msgs are set to quiet at night, but the ringer is set to normal. I also use my phone as an alarm. If anyone calls me late at night-early morning, it better be a serious matter...otherwise, it'll be a serious matter!

Ditto to all.

phone is always on vibrate.

eventho i have a blackberry now, still only have the phone near me when i want to receive calls or texts.

i do understand the frustration tho since a lot of people use their phone as an alarm and can't put in on silent.

If you have a blackberry, just use the Auto On/Off feature.

ie. I set mine to automatically turn off at 12am, and automatically turn on at 8am. Now if you want it to ring the alarm, you can just set that for 8:15am, but I do believe that if your alarm is set while the blackberry has auto off (ie. Before 8am), it will turn on and ring for the alarm. Though I need to check that..

Most Sony's can be turned off, and still have the alarm go off, aswell. It's so convenient.

Yep. My old Motorola did that, and so does my new Nokia. It's very handy.

I'm not important enough to need to leave my cell on at night.

However, there was a brief period when I first moved in, before I had a landline phone, that I left it on 24/7. This was both for the whole in-case-of-emergency thing and because I would otherwise only get around to turning it back on around 3 PM on Saturday/Sunday, which was sort of too late for anybody to reach me about anything important.

Posted by Spam on Feb-28-2009 15:47:

Most of the time my phone is sitting on my coffee table in my room. Whether I'm in the room or not is another question entirely.

I leave it on all the time, no vibrating or anything, just set on loud. I'm such a deep sleeper that if a friend wakes me up at 3am for some stupid reason, I don't mind taking the time to chat for a minute and make sure it isn't an important call before I tell them to fuck right off and get back to sleep

Posted by Jem_hadar on Mar-06-2009 12:37:

I dont get too many calls at wierd hours through the night, so i leave my in normal mode all teh time.

if i do happen to get a call, usually itd be around 12 or 1am-ish, which ill just answer to tell the person im sleeping (or talk to them depending who it is and if i want to). its stil late enough at nigth to easily fall back to sleep and doesnt bother me.

My text msg sound is only a quick beep, so that never would wake me up. i just check the texts in teh morning.

If you're with a group of friends and you get a call, feel free to excuse yourself, answer the phone, and talk away. Alternatively, if you're hanging out with just one or two other people, I believe it's impolite to talk on your cell phone at length

And people, don't yell when you're talking on your cell phones! In a setting like a restaurant for instance, there's no reason each individual present should be able to hear every word you utter.

It's a big pet peeve of mine.

Another one is answering a cell phone, or even worse, proceeding to have a conversation on the phone while eating a meal with someone or a group of people.

People who have text message conversations in social situations bother me. Its fine to quickly reply to someone, but if youre talking to me and texting someone at the same time... its just so rude.

Forgot to mention this one too. It drives me nuts. If you want to use your cell phone while someone is talking to you, excuse yourself. I don't like waiting for you to finish replying "omg I luv u sweetie" while we're in mid-conversation.

If I was talking to someone, and while they were in mid-sentence, someone else walked in, and I just turned away and started talking to the new person, that wouldn't be very appropriate, would it? So why do people think it's appropriate when it comes to cell phones?
