The kind that gets owned passing blow at airports. With a passport that says "Place of Birth: Colombia"

Guess Daniel was wrong then...the record isn't skipping, it's a motherfucking trainwreck

Obviously there are the Berghain guys, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann and Shed, among others (like Len Faki). I think the Watergate has Sascha Funke, but I'm not sure if he's a resident there. Also there's the Circo Loco crew of course (Rhadoo, Raresh, etc...). I know England has got some really good ones, too.

A lot of those clubs you've mentioned haven't even been around 12 years... And when you mention teams of two or three members it is obvious that allows for much more time away to tour, produce, or whatever when others there to cover.

Posted by chrisday on Mar-07-2009 01:56:

Yeah... There used to be a few in the UK.

I'm sure PVD was a Crasher resident for sometime at Crasher1 Sheffield back in the late nineties.

Armin was for Godskitchen for some while as well.

JFK at the Emporium (Passion)

Tall Paul at the gallery?? Its late... I cant think if thats correct! But if it is, its either his / friends club and hes been playing there for ages.

what kind of resident doesn't play their club for 3 and half months

Boris and JP both play Pacha once a month.

Jonathan Peters is def one of the most successful residents having played SoundFactory every weekend for 7 years

iam suprised you didnt say
richie santana at deko lounge

but yea jp deff gets credit for what he did at factory week after week

danny tenaglia at arc/vinyl is not going on anymore, but in its day that was a great residency

i wish he was still a weekly resident

Behrouz had a residency at some club in San Francisco for eight years. Unaware of the number of Saturdays he missed...

Posted by AY STAR on Mar-07-2009 02:54:

another few residencys that were big:
scott bond and matt hardwick @ gatecrasher
sasha&digweed at twilo nyc
pvd at twilo nyc
junior vasquez at twilo nyc

Good for you Mark Oliver, have a cookie.

Posted by DJ Eco on Mar-07-2009 07:29:

New York DJ's take the cake in this category. We're crackheads enough to see a DJ week-in or week-out (or at least in the 90s) haha

Timmy Regisford @ Shelter Saturdays, since the late 80s until 2008
Jonathan Peters @ Sound Factory, for many years
Danny Tenaglia @ Vinyl/ARC, for many years
Francois K @ Cielo Mondays, for many many years
Louie Vega @ Cielo Wednesdays, forever it seems
Junior Vasquez @ Sound Factory, for six years

Those are off the top of my head, probably the only ones we can compare with Mark Oliver (as they are/were weekly). Then of course, we have loads of monthly or bimonthly residents, but for the purpose of the discussion, we won't count those!

The cool thing is that many of those names up there were overlapping, so on any night of the week, you could pick which residency to check out. Half of those parties don't exist anymore, so as far as current DJs, maybe Mark Oliver takes the cake, that sounds pretty nuts

I've heard mark open and close for guv.. he's a hit or miss for me... not really a fan of his style of music, especially when he plays house. heard he's better when playing trance...props though, its pretty hard to play to a room that size.

hmmm.. and Tiesto used the island to go back in time to create the orginal Adagio for strings. (As well as knock up some chick known as 'Mary')

not to throw a wrench in your guys' wheel. but how many fridays did these people miss? i think that's a relevant question.

I thought of Scott Bond but as Gatecrasher made a name for itself even he toured away from the club. I don't think he strung a consistent decade together in the one room either.

The PVD and Sasha/Digweed were monthly so not at all what I'm looking for.

Vasquez never had a night that lasted 12yrs though he may be the original pioneer of the solo marathon club night set of 8+hrs. Anyone care to comment on others who may have preceded him??

Great thanks Eco! I was not directly aware of Tim Regisford or Jonathan Peters and they certainly appear to be the perfect rivals (...if not betters).

The Weeknight residencies I'm thinking aren't as of such a concern as they would not have the longer set length.

Vasquez, I think defintely deserves a mention in the article as believe he is the pioneer of the solo all-nighter marathon club night, is he not?

Thanks again for the great help!

Posted by craCKYer on Mar-08-2009 18:33:

Dont think we will find a Dj thats had residency for 21 years does 9 hours sets and has missed less then 7 Saturdays.

/Bows down to Mark Oliver 21 times

Such loyalty & dedication shall never be replicated or surpassed

Posted by tallent416 on Mar-08-2009 18:57:

It's actually 12years (twelve) not 21... though he doesn't show any signs of slowing down any time soon!

...and Jonathan Peters

Lee Burridge was in Hong Kong for some time.

Three has been a resident for Snatch in Tampa for at least 5 years now. Running by-weekly. He was also a resident at Simons in Gainsville and Twilo NYC.

Oscar G has been the Space Miami resident forever.

Posted by Nostalgic on Mar-09-2009 21:39:

Nothing will ever compare to the Sasha/Digweed Twilo days of 1998-2001. It's too bad only a few sets of theirs playing in Twilo have actually been recorded.
