-- Mac Mini and Logic 8 - anyone using this?

Ive been reading abit on forums and stuff on the web and Im planning to try to "upgrade" my mac mini. ATM its a 1,83GHz Core 2 Duo 1GB Ram, 80GB HD. It seems that the motherboards supports alot more than this and Im considering to try my gear from my homemade win PC with the following specs: 2,4GHz Quad Core 2 Q6600, 500GB Samsung HD 7200RPM, 4GB Ram. I dont know bus-speed but are hoping it will just work lol. Then im going to try boot camp and have both OSes on it. If this works i can throw the whole PC shit away. Anyone else tried this before?

works great that boot camp yeah. awesome. what do i need PC for now lol? Wonder how Hitman Blood Money will run on this. Next up is to try switch to the bigger HD, 500GB 7200RPM.

lol it was what i was going to try but thats the last thing im going to try. First HD, then RAM, then CPU. XP runs fast as hell btw on Mini dont know why but it seems like the hardwareparts is more suited for each other that on my homemade PC is. I think this is goodbuy PC forever.

I produce on a Mac Mini 1.83 Core Duo with 2gb ram. Everything runs fine here with an occasional hiccup when too many AU's are loaded but normally can have about 35-40 channels and around 8 busses without any trouble.
the mac mini is a killer machine :-)

i opened it up and found out (unsurprisingly though after a second thought lol) that both RAM and HD of course was alot smaller than the devices in my PC which i planned to use. So much for warrany hahaha. Luckily I managed to put it together again 
it has nothing to do with warranty I think. These are standard laptop spares. The hd is SATA 2,5" and the ram is DDR2 SODIMM. My macbook has the same.

500 gb exists but only @5400RPM. 4 gb is possible in a macbook. Mini depends on how many ramslots you have. I don't know the mini that well. It looks like macbooks are plain simple to disassemble and to tweak, too. But mini holds the crown on that matter.

It only has two slots, guess 2GB is max then but thats probably enough. Its HD size thats matter to me as Im going to run both Mac and XP on it. It wasnt hard to open at all btw.
Max ram is 4gb for the new mini, 2 pairs of 2gb laptop style small ram.
500gb @7200 are on the way. But if you can afford one, SSD is just the s**t.
instead of posting in the techno/games/computers forum im keeping on with this thread. How do I "map" up Mac OSX partition in XP when running bootcamp. In OSX Windows/C: is automaticly mounted so i can get files from there but how bout the other way? Ive just imported a few of my new CDs into ITunes and would like to copy them over to my windows partition. Also Ill be transfering samples and projectfiles, mailbackup etc forward and backward between OSX and XP so i need to mount OSX in XP. Anyone? Bootcamp runs great btw, my next computer will be a Mac no mather if i adjust to OSX or not, Apple hardware just feels more stable and suited for each other.

im having a Q for those who use the new imac. When buying it you can choose between 320GB or 640GB HD. Does it have two slots for HD? What kind of discs is it 3,5" SATA? I have a 1TB 7200RPM WD from before would that fit?
I need a laptop for some school projects, so i was thinking buying macbook. I don't do graphics or play games. Just need it for documentation, internet and also want to use it for logic.
I used to have logic 5.5 for pc about 3-4 years ago. Back then I had mostly hardware setup (TB-303, MC-202, MKS-50, Korg 900ps, ex-800, prophet 2000, JP-8000 to name a few)
none of those left as I got sick and tired of them and producing in general, but now I want to get back into it more or less.
Which one would be better using logic 8, early 2008 macbook 2,4GHz/4GB or the new 2,0GHz/4GB aluminum one? Older one I could get secondhand in good shape for less money which is a plus.
New one doesn't have firewire? But then again I only have microkorg and I'm gonna use it mainly as a controller. So not much traffic going in/out.
Older one has slightly slower RAM is that bad?
Would I be ok with older one?
ive disconnected my PC completely now to force myself to adapt to OSX but i need help on one thing, ive googled alot without luck. I need a good mediaplayer that works like winamp. Files must be opened fast and hopefully beying able to enque in a playlist without having to add anything to any library. I hate using itunes caus it tries to add everything into a library which isnt what i want and quicktime, well its quicktime, buggy as hell and no playlist. VLC sucks too, the volume fader is totaly garbage and dangerous it triples the volume and almost fucked up my soundcard or speakers with DC. other than this and finder im starting to like to use it.
edit: tried realplayer again after ditching it 10 years ago, seems to work ok on a mac really. playlist and all.

Well good luck with finding something like Winamp.
I tried too when getting my Mac two years ago, after a while it wasn't worth it and gave in to using iTunes.
There are some players that have what you want, but never come close to Winamp.
I recently found a lightweight player that I really like but lacks a playlist.
Sometimes a little buggy, but does the job fairly well for quickly listening to stuff: Vox.
i think the realplayer will do for now. it worked nicely just drag the tracks over the playlist and play. there must be more options or are people fine with itunes? it sucks!
would also love some answers on my iMac HD question and bootcamp-filehandling question earlier in the thread.
Winamp website has information on how to use WinAmp on mac. but for some reason I'm IP banned from their site, Which is odd, Ive never been there before. IPrange ban I guess.
