My idea was tracks with just a few instruments and/or layers, especially some classics (also) could be considered as 'minimal trance'.
They do sound a bit minimal although melody and rhythm easily could fit in a nowadays a.s.o.t.-like track.
Face the Phase - Face the Phase is also such a track. It's not on Youtube yet. Maybe I'll upload it.
When I'm right he didn't mean the genre "Minimal". In that case I don't think I should reply at all.

Those two words should never be in the same sentence.

i would not call it minimal though, although dj tools are used in the spirit of the way most mnml dj's tend to mix.

+1 . I like them to some degree but not when it overly splinters things to an unnecessary degree imo.

From the countless and pointless minimal/glitch-techno/micro-house garbage out there i actually like these more "atmospheric" releases. Its still within the minimal genre though, there are not substantial releases to create a new seperate sub-genre such as "neo-trance" (or minimal-trance as you say).

Sounds like sped up chill out, not early 90's trance really.

omg i love minimalist trance,

artists like tisto, deadmau5, armin, peter hook, really breaking through on this new genre.

Who talked about early 90's trance?

There's no such thing as minimalist trance, or even mininal trance. If you define trance as you've just described, then it's a redundant tag anyway.

That's not what I said, either. Trance, as it was in the beginning, had what could probably be classified as a mediocre take on musical minimalism. The concept itself is essentially minimal. Using long delays and little change the musicians wanted to induce some sort of feeling or state, and I guess hypnosis, trance or maybe sleepiness was the result. Of course, to many musicians the drug culture was probably a presupposed and thus the attempt at making the music itself minimal could at some times fail.

how is that minimalism? this is something completely different to that sphere of thought/compositional attitude. It's more romantic than minimal.

This brings us the point where we need to divide everything into specific dimensions. There's the musical dimension, and that's ostinato conveyed in electronic soundscapes but maybe not to the extent more pure minimalistic music styles do it, that's always hard to say.
There's the autonomy of emotions, this is probably where I'd say the minimal idea comes to surface. The repeated sequences and the essential simplicity of the tracks are there, the way they are, because it's a probable attempt at achieving something that a minimalistic song should. Again, this is something I've identified as just... sub-conscious listening or whatever. And of course; sleep, hypnosis and rather just putting the brain in a certain state and not, like romanticism, imagining things. LIKE romanticism, this side of minimalism could very well be described as some sort of escapism.

Oh man, I don't even know if I'm making any sense, I talk a lot but say little.
