lol yeah I went through that last year, it's getting corporate sponsorship that's hard I wish Tiesto would do this, but his booking cost is probably really high especially if this is a free event.

If Hatiras is saying there is a lack of underground parties, then I tend to believe him. I can't say I search them out too much anymore.

I think the house scene has stayed pretty fresh, and I don't mean the house that you hear in the gallery or at the zone from Sydney or Deko-Ze, I mean the pat boogies of the scene and the really soulful house promoters. They are doing a fantastic job and the vibe at these parties is really top notch no matter what size they are. I have found these parties to be more about the music and less about getting wrecked and I find that appealing.

And maybe it's me being old (probably) but the parties that are underground, the booze cans, the box of kittens, they're fun but there is something that makes me apprehensive about one-off venues where the search is non-existent. While a lot of these parties maybe started off as small, they've got wind to them now and you never know who is going to show up. I personally feel more comfortable in a club with a reasonable amount of security, that isn't so underground.

the reason it is cheap is the fact that you are using the square only. if you put tiesto, guetta, armin etc in here they will overflow onto the streets for a free event which means you'd need to shut down streets like caribana/santa claus parade which is a completely different kettle of fish - permits, policing, barricades etc and serious $$$. last show with tiesto did 8000 people at $100 tickets so how many people would you get cramming the area for a free show? also they'd probably have to shut down the TTC at dundas and double staff the food court at eaton centre, not to mention providing rehydration centres and medical support on site... it's a logistical catastrophe!

The laws in the GTA are preventing any late/overnight parties ("raves") from happening. And I'm sure some guys trying to revive the whole warehouse rave scene can attest to that.
But there is nothing to prevent organizers from creating events during the day. I just want to remind people that DEMF and Ultra Music Festivals end at mid-night. Is it possible for something like that in Toronto? Maybe. Will people go? Yes. Will there be people saying that a party is not a party unless it lasts overnight? Probably. But I see from various treads, that there are many people preferring, like me, to go home early in the night, rather than in the morning.

Then it all got squashed under a litany of bureaucratic red tape, corruption and unnecessary laws and regulations. Again im not talking about JUST the party scene when i make these statements. Look around you, Toronto is NOT a fun place to be anymore whether you are going to a bar or parking your car or throwing out your garbage.

Toronto is a dying city and no one wants to admit it. The cracks are finally getting too large to ignore but sadly it may be too late to do anything about it. For one thing, Miller and his buddies are not only failing to prevent it, they are making it worse. And these goons are stilla round for at least another 3 years.

Woe is me for the city i grew up in and sadly now forced to leave due to its decline in both lifestyle and opportunity.

RIP Toronto

You May Want to add "IMO" to that as i disagree with you whole heartly Toronto may not be your ideal city (in every possible way not only scene) but personally i love it to me it is a fun city... so i dont think we need your rip toronto ..Pity pity pity i have to leave sob story ... as toronto has so amny great things to offer, but maybe instead of people complaing about how things are so "bad" and embraced what we have, things would jsut ge3t better from where they already are... IMO

The funny thing is that a lot of old-timers don't go to parties... and then turn around and say they aren't happening!

Being a bit older i have a perspective thats a bit different. Ive seen toronto when it was successful and thats why i recognize the downhill slide. Its a real shame that we let it come to this. And at the rate we are going we havnt seen anything yet.

I used to take pride in Toronto. It saddens me to make these comments but i dont wear rose coloured glasses i guess.
