You listed the same bill three times, and a bill designed to encourage community service volunteers doesn't strike me as relevant to gun ownership.

From what I heard there is no volunteer.. its supposed to be mandatory. Not that its a bad thing to get all those lazy kids off there ass to serve the community. The only problem is who knows how far they will take it? While they are doing there "community service" will there be military people trying to recruit and manipulate them at the same time? Seems like a good tool for brain washing but I might be wrong and who knows maybe its just an innocent program to help the community.

They already do that in US High Schools...

Brain-washing?

It doesn't require mandatory volunteering, and certainly says nothing about mandatory military service. The bill increases funding for programs like Americorps and Teach for America, and intends to incentivize participation in community programs (tuition credits for volunteering). In other words, if you choose to join Americorps or another similar program, you can get tuition benefits for future higher education pursuits.

You can read the bill here if you don't believe me:
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h1388/show

Ron Paul is about the only person I've heard criticize the bill (I don't listen to Limbaugh, but I'm sure he found something to rant about too), and his criticism was really not about the actual bill, but rather arguing that this is some sort of "slippery slope" toward universal conscription... which is about as looney toons as the gold standard, imo.

With over 300 million people in the US, some crazy "stuff" is bound to happen. Those three events affected what, 0.000006% of the US population. I'm not saying it's right or people shouldn't be upset, but in context it's not like the US has turned into some sort of hellish free for all of crime and violence. I'm sure every country has their own horror stories if you look for them.

And weren't 4 Oakland police officers gunned down last week?

Posted by junkproject on Apr-05-2009 17:39:

See. China should a thing or two from the united states about "population control"m. Throw in some bad news, a recession, an overabundance of unemployed workers, and lax gun policies, and the population will control itself. .

If you put a black president in the leader seat in china, it helps speed up the process. Hah.

J/k. Awaits for flames ...........

Posted by Zild on Apr-05-2009 21:16:

I for one support mandatory military service for all able bodied citizens. However I don't see what that has to with community service.

Well look world war 1 and 2 ok I can say mandatory would be ok because they where literally fighting for freedom. Why the hell would anyone wanna be in the military now? To go and harass some people in the desert? So pointless IMO
