This is my father's recipe for Split-Pea Soup:

Serving size will be for about 4 or so people. Make sure you have a Soup Pot that can hold 8 Cups of water + all other ingredients.

Ingredients you'll need:
(1) Ham-Shank
(2) Chicken Bullion Cubes
(2) Onions
(2) Garlic Buds
(3) Carrots
(4) Celery Stalks

Step 1: Boil 1 Smoked Ham-Shank in 8 Cups of Water along with a Celery Stalk, One Carrot, Half of an Onion & 2 Chicken Bullion Cubes.
Let it work until the ham falls off the bone (usually about 2+ Hours)

Once the ham is falling off, pull out the Ham-Shank and set aside. Discard of the Onion, Carrot & Celery.

Step 2:

Strip the Ham-Shank of all left over meat on the bone, and cut into small pieces.

Step 3: Put the meat back in the Ham Stock (water) and add one bag of Split Peas. Bring to a Boil. While bringing to a boil add: Two Garlic bud's crushed, 3 stalks of celery chopped, one coarsely chopped onion and two large carrots (Best to grind carrots than chop as it will add more flavor to the soup, but sliced will still do just fine).

Step 4: Continue to boil until thickening starts and some stock boils off.

After step four, the soup is technically done and can be eaten immediately. However, it's best to keep the soup in a cool/cold place overnight to allow the flavor of the soup to come out.

Enjoy!

P.S. I'm pretty noob to typing up recipes, so if you any questions on something, let me know.

Also, the metric equivalent to 8 Cups is 1.89270 Litres

P.P.S: If you're going to reheat the soup later, remember that this soup can and will burn if you try to heat it too quickly. Keep it at a very low heat and slowly bring it back up to temperature.

pfffft - you poeple and your directions. cooking in the kitchen is supossed to be about randomness and doing whatever you want. i don't measure out hardly anything.

in so doing, everytime i eat what would be considered a "basic meal" it tastes different.

actually, when you bake spaghetti, if you put an egg in with it, it keeps the noodles more moist.

or you could use a double boiler or make your own with a metal bowl over a pot of boiling water.

indirect heat = never burn and great for making clump free sauces.

<3 pea soup, esp with real maple syrup.
