Yeah if u select more channels than one, right click in the mixer and choose `link channels`

Although, must be in my imagination that using inserts on one of them would apply it to the other, apparently that did not work.

I think it just links the fader ...

Yep.

How about creating an FX channel track with the compressor on it, and route it to the appropriate channels ?

Just an idea.

I think I tried that... thing is, we're basically creating a single compressor with four inputs (two for sidechain). So no matter what, there has to be two compressors.

Thanks for this tip, I've been using the slideshow sidechain compressor (?) for a while and have always been pretty unhappy with the sound quality of the results, it just seems to make everything sound thin and more mono, basically crappy. Especially bad for pads.

The panning method sounds great and easy too, thanks!

Tried it last night, and it's easy to setup and sounds very clean. I found I didn't have to exactly duplicate the compression on both sidechain group channels, but then I was layering pads using two completely different synths anyway. Probably the compression values were about the same on the compressors.

The annoying thing about this method is if you want to tweak the compression, you have to either do it twice, or do it once and duplicate the results. Either way, you can't hear it going in stereo while you tweak it. And if you don't turn one side off, you'll have two different rhythms going. As you mentioned, it would be really nice to have a channel linking thing.
