Ideal for whom? The lazy dumbfucks? If all professors did shit that was "ideal", there'd be a lot more morons competing for placements in programs that people who work hard actually deserve acceptance to.

Posted by Zild on Apr-19-2009 17:07:

The way I see it the 'A' scores are already curved. From 90-100 is a range of 11 points. Yes I have had professors change that to 91-100 since 11 points is 1 point too many.

Okay, fine, call me a lazy dumbfuck for saying it would be cool if you caught a break every once and a while. Jesus christ, apparently you're a moron unless you get A's in everything like you.

Yeah I hate soft profs who give everyone As. Then I get an A and I wonder WTF did I bust my ass for?

Ideally you can just show up for a C which is what I try to do.

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering - from India
Master's degree in mechanical engineering - From US (GPA:3.89)
Started PhD in Automotive Engineering - but didn't like my adviser and didn't want to switch universities and start all over again. So I quit the program after 1 summer + 1 semester and came back to India. My cumulative GPA including MS was 3.92.

Back in India, I work for a company that manufactures hydraulic systems. My job mostly involves developing new hydraulics technology and applying it in the automotive domain. It's a research-type of job broadly defined in the interdisciplinary field of Dynamic Systems and Controls. So I make good use of electrical and mechanical engineering in my work.

graduated w/ a B.S. In Meteorology and a 3.1 GPA

I don't disgaree that some people should catch a break. But the people who actually deserve it are few and far between, imo.

Posted by Zild on Apr-19-2009 17:12:

I agree, I don't know what's so cool about a muggy climate and rain 24/7, old people, cubans, and nothing but block after block of buildings and homeless people.

fuck that. midwest winters suck so much.

go to LSU in Baton Rouge

I got a fairly shitty GPA, probably in the 2.7 rangeish right now, in my second to last semester towards a degree in economics.

As for grades, grades don't measure intelligence, fuck that. I focus on learning the material. If I don't well on an assignment, but I remember and can apply it better a year later than an A student, well then who's better off? Then again, I've always been a fan of curving stuff so that the class average is a C, every time. A's should be earned, and frankly its fucking stupid to give people who just do all the work an A, right?
