Masturbation is only good for two things:
a) Getting to sleep.
b) Reducing stress.
In the first capacity, I employ this pretty much every night. I've become dependent on it since age 13. Even after sex.
In regards to the second one, I remember in my final year of school when we were all writing our study schedules it became the status quo to mark a little spot on your timetable which would be set aside for wacking off.

| Originally posted by astroboy Not per se. It's a whole attitude thing. First they make them think their natural urges and thoughts are wrong and ungodly. If they choose to believe otherwise they get alienated completely. And remember these guys' whole lives revolve around their wacky churches. All their friends and family are probably members.. they probably do a bunch of other activities for the church etc.. so it's like being ostracised by something that normally makes up your whole life. Not a great experience for fragile adolescents. I'm sure it leads to depression at the very least. But I wouldn't be surprised if the whole unhealthy atmosphere of these organisations lead to some cases of drug abuse and suicide. |

| Originally posted by Domesticated Spot on. I just finished reading Sybil for the second time and it just reinforced my notion that religion is bullshit, especially when it's off the fundamentalist/orthodox/extremist/puritan type. Many of her multiple personalities could be traced directly back to pressures exerted by religion. |

They can engage in these acts to either themselves or their partner, and usually do not remember doing so. The best is when your dating someone and find out in the middle of the night that they have sexsomnia. Its a nice little surprise to wake up to |

| Originally posted by astroboy See to me it's not something unique to religion. The same shit happened in the Soviet Union where Communism was the state religion.. (true religions, were in fact taboo and all but forbidden) and I bet you the same stuff goes on in atheist North Korea and (to a slightly lesser extent) China. You don't need the trappings of religion for people to take control of an inherently non-violent ideology and use it to oppress people. History abounds with such examples. TO me the problem is that we raise our children to be sheep, and sheep will always find a shepherd, religious or not. And on the other hand, among the few independant minds out there will be a few unscrupulous and power-hungry enough to do whatever it takes to get the control they crave. |

People who only listen to the music they hear on the radio, wear the clothes they see celebrities wear, and take the stance on issues that the media tells them to. People are too content to stick their head in the sand. There are not enough people asking "why?" |
