yeah, monster seems to work for most people...

you should also take an IQ test...

im kiddin'

It doesn't always apply to every industry, but people notice when they get a letter, emails don't have quite the same impact because there is so many of them.
So, type up your resume, get it printed out, tidy, throw in a cover sheet of why you're interested in working for them and you should at least get something from it eventually. By all means include an email as a return point of contact if you want

Good idea, didn't really think about this. Now, the next step is finding a job I truly care for to the point that I actually put forth the effort needed to make it happen. No harm in trying.

I realize that the degree I have may not be the best...but then I realize the number of other degrees out there that people get themselves into. Like Philosophy. If you aren't planning on teaching it, what is it going to get you? Or how about Sociology...what kind of jobs does that entail you? With the exception of teaching, probably not much. Those people are in the same boat as me...it's all about how you market yourself.

Actually, per capita, Philosophy is the highest-paying undergraduate major in the U.S. at something like an average of $75,000/graduate.

Psychology is last at like $28,000. Just sayin'.

i still can't believe i am going to have to call my sister "Doctor" little sis.

Do you guys send things normal mail when you randomly send your cover letter/resume to companies or do you use email? Do people get more responses through sending things through snail mail or email do yah think?

Posted by JD8180 on May-09-2009 18:24:

i've actually heard some pretty good reviews about craigslist for jobs, as well as horrible. but at least there you are most likely dealing directly with the employer and it's YOU who is contacting them. rather than posting your info and waiting for an employer to contact you.

just sift through and i'm sure eventually you may actually find a decent job.

you are what we call a passive candidate. You put your resume out but are not really going after something. the career sites are good for those with real experience, this is what the headhunters search off of. They are not good for passive candidates.

So if you want to get started look for a company you like and apply. CityCenter is hiring here in vegas

i am more convinced every day that ashley posts using the wifi from starbucks from his cardboard box right beside the dumpster.

Wow. Total surprise for me. I would have thought these two would have swapped; a psychologist making bank while a philosophy major living in the dirt next to writers and 'artists.' What kind of jobs does a philosophy major entitle themselves for? These statistics completely blew my mind when I read your post (though I'm not challenging them by any means...I think I've heard something along these lines before, just trying to seek an explanation on how this could be true).

I would have assumed psychologists make a shitload of money, what with their leather chairs in their cozy offices where they talk to crazy asses about why they think about murdering people. I guess American entertainment has completely fucked my perception of the real world in terms of how these jobs really are.

Understood. I completely admit that I'm not being aggressive, though I think my reasoning is pretty a good excuse; been in school full-time taking 18 credit hours whilst working in the ballpark of 20 hours a week. I know there are plenty others who can do even more than that, but I tried to enjoy my last days of college, rather than spent them working on organizing the next step in life. With the summer now here, I can fully dedicate myself to figuring out what the hell I want to do, and put my sights directly on it. Doing the whole CareerBuilder/Monster bullshit was just a start.

Also, can't say I've heard of CityCenter. Been living under a rock for the past couple of years, I guess.

There is more than just this but if you arn't sold on the I will make you a millionaire part, then chances are you don't care about the money anyway.

If you are currious contact me and I'll get you started, you can decide.

As long as you don't lie to me at any stage of the process then you will become a millionaire.

Become an assosiate today.

The best part in this is that the worse the economy tanks the better chance of income from this line of work!!

I love the enthusiasm and ambition, but you are sounding more and more like a spambot. ArchVan had a good question, if you possess such impressive knowledge regarding becoming a millionaire, why not do it yourself? Or have you and you are posting right now in your new condo atop Trump Tower?

Ya, my buddy posts job offers on career builder and monster all the time since his job is finding people to work in other companies.

There are legitimate jobs posted in there.

Personally I've had the most luck with Craigslist. I tried Monster.com and it was a total waste of time

I generally had the same issue with Monster and Careerbuilder. I really can't recommend www.indeed.com enough though. It is by far, one of the best search aggregates.
