One thing that bugs me is there is the obvious sound difference with reason which is slightly annoying from the start. The new mixing console looks great but it would be even better if the sounds wasn't so flat to start with. Sometimes I tweak away but dont get the right sound.

The same sample played in another DAW comes out much different

Palm I guess thats the sound quality prob you were refering to?

Looks great, Sounds promising! But i wouldn't go to the extent to call it a DAW since it's a rewire slave app.
Great to see awesome implementing reason4 4 well, hey they still have the rebirth module in there?

Yeah I know guys it doesnt have midi out infact which suprised me!

The admin said that it works the same as reason, you record midi data in to play devices etc. Reason has never had midi out capabilties, well not to my knowledge.

I do like it but I'm saying the marketing isn't right .

Why not introduce all those knobs in an effect and keep the channels simple with an on/off button.

You really can't deny that with that amount of knobs it is not built for an engineer. Unlike they are claiming in their new video.

So does that mean that Live, Reason, FL Studio, and Reaper aren't DAW's either?

Posted by Storyteller on May-12-2009 08:05:

yes.

Well, they ARE marketing it as an SSL emu.

Notice also the bus compressor.

Posted by kitphillips on May-12-2009 10:55:

Hurray, another overpriced DAW-alike targeting the low end of the market and pretending that its lack of features is to make it "easier and more innovative". I'm sure all the singer songwriters will love it

Ah - I hadn't noticed that part.

So, they should have called it ReDundant?

Or ReTarded. Or ReInventing the wheel.

I just don't know when people are going to realise that production is complicated. No tool is going to get you good results, especially ones which market themselves as "simple".

And Palm, get off the drugs, VSTs are outdated? What a clown

lol. ur right to have an opinion and i am too. i say VST is bullshit crap stuff lol.

Posted by xphonix on May-12-2009 17:09:

I also think its a big miss for not including vst support although it does look like a solid product and will appeal to a lot of people im sure.

Posted by lowski on May-12-2009 18:24:

i doesn't look like anything speacial but at least i can add some guitar to my reason tracks with ease.

what the really need to do is add some better mastering tools, the mclass eq isn't the best. also they need to get reason to be able to use more processor power.

Posted by Sonic_c on May-12-2009 18:27:

the mixer is based on ssl console. which is good but why buy this and have reason in it when you can have cubase / logic etc in rewire?

Hahah yer my bad :\ but reason i wouldnt call a DAW, It's more just a sequencer. Also the thing about Record also is that it wont have audio input into the Mixer/Racks via rewire (same with reason). So it would be great if it did act as a host DAW which has an audio input stream rather than just output rewire.

Posted by atxbigballer1 on May-13-2009 05:08:

If yall want my 2 cents on Record hear it is!
I think its cool and all but i will still be useing Reaper as my Main Daw! But i may use Record for mixing Down! just my 2 c!

"gives you the big studio sound"

Of course, they could always just throw that idea out and remake the program into something more like Ableton / Cubase / Logic, I guess. I think that would be a shame.

It's possible. They could for example program a wrapper for hosting VST's within reason and keep the setup of reason.

Posted by Timothy on May-13-2009 08:23:

After looking the video, here is my take on it. It's pretty cool, but it is no product that fills a gap in the market and it doesn't improve what's out there. I personally never liked the Fx in reason so for mixing audio in Record is a no for me.

Imo, it looks more like what reason 5.0 should be if Record was integrated in reason. Reason needs audio support. There is no excuse for it because Hardware workstations can do this which Reason competes again. To release a seperate product for this is a bit strange for being a "workstation" that Reason is supposed to be.

Yeah, theres no reason why they couldn't get that working reasonably well. And theres no real reason that they need to have those pretty animated cables anyway. If you want a DAW buy cubase/ableton/logic. If you want a pretty animated game then buy reason IMO.

Posted by echosystm on May-13-2009 10:12:

You guys seem to forget how common Reason is in education. If you do an audio engineering course at a university, it is the first thing that gets thrown at you, because the university doesn't want to mess around with plugins. Having a completely encapsulated environment to work in has many benefits. This is the Propellerhead niche.

Posted by mzvirbulis on May-13-2009 10:18:

Plus it's modular nature is very Intuitive than other DAW software i think as signal flow is more present without going through many different gui screens etc.

But i admit cant wait to test it.

Posted by Storyteller on May-13-2009 10:44:

I find it all but intuitive. It takes me shitloads of time to get my rack properly sorted before I could get anything started. I think it's interface is clumsy and messy. It doesn't work for me. It does provide some insight on how things would have been (working) if you had real hardware though. On other DAW's you can see what's going on in an eyedrop, I need to hunt cables down in Reason if I want to know what's happening.

Posted by Sonic_c on May-13-2009 10:46:

Im at music university doing production etc. Yes the first thing that they show you is indeed reason for like 10 minutes. We did it lesson 1 and maybe lesson two. After that it is quickly dismissed as a tool for doing a couple of little things, redrum for example for loops. It is taught more heavily to the btec students which is several levels below a degree in uk. There has to be a reason for this no pun intended. Where do we draw the line? as to what a great little music making package is. Surely and i do mean this cubase/logic + (insert popular big vst/au nexus?) + (insert popular sample pack vengence?) is better.
