I could be wrong, but I think you'll have trouble getting the lyrics going on this one because the pad at the beginning seems to be out of key with your pluck. Maybe develop the track a bit more before you try getting the lyrics in.

I find it helpful to just imagine them as another instrument, so don't just leave an 8 bar space for them, try and bring them in the same way you would any other element.

Don't worry about the lyrics. Focus on sound-design, mixing, and composition. Thats where you need help at the moment. You need to work on your arrangements, layering, transitions, etc. The pads are nice but as said before slightly out of tune with the pluck and the bass. The melody itself is fair but has key mismatching in itself.

Well, the key is not mismatched. It sounds that way because I wanted it to sound that way. I personally like the way it sounds. And to kitphillips, I don't need to get the vocals going at that part anyway so if it sounds off key it wouldn't be affecting the vocals. The coals come in at the end.

Don't know about you, but I'm competing for 10 minutes of play on a Friday night. I'd want to make sure 1000+ people were going to appreciate whatever I made.
