at least there's someone in here with fucking sense. i mean honestly, the self-righteous nonsense from capital punishment advocates just reminds me how fucking stupid people are thus why capital punishment should be outlawed.

it is more expensive in the US to execute people than it is to keep them in maximum security for the term of their natural life.

Agreed. Though I wouldn't limit my argument to jury trials (which are increasingly rare in common law jurisdictions outside of the US).

Even if I was certain that a 100% of guilty verdicts were handed down responsibly and beyond reasonable doubt - which they simply aren't.. that still leaves too much of an error margin. If one innocent person is put to death by the state it is too high a price to pay.

Indeed if you argue for long enough with an advocate of capital punishment, regardless of how seemingly cold and logical his supporting arguments may be, the truth usually comes out.. it's just an outlet for the basest human tendencies - A desire to see retribution handed down.. It's like come on we're not in the dark ages any more.. the state should attempt to represent societies most noble aspirations rather than it's most primitive urges.

That assumes that you know it's Satan, though. He could be wearing a clever disguise.

I fully support a safe death penalty. I think it should only be used under the following conditions.

1. The persons stated wish to receive the death penalty was preregistered. (Everyone should have a living will on file)
They should also currently agree to receive the death penalty.
They should be able to receive it for any crime at their request.
The person should have a day of "announcement" where they may present their last words, at a public forum. And these last words will be recorded and kept in public registry.

The death penalty should only be imposed on those willing or those who are at the moment in the act of creating a danger to the lives of society, eg. self defence.

They shuold be given a mechanism to kill themselves, and they should have the option to donate their body to science. and the form of their burrial, from a set of options.

That aside I know the justice system lies periodically, and people can be framed, so I don't trust absolutely anything that comes out of a trial, it is all fabricated after the fact. That is why I feel the justice system should be results based, as an attempt to resolve public crisis and dissatisfaction, it should not be an inquest to make someone at fault, it should only address discovery of a means to heal the problems that people are expressing and are warranted.

Dude...c'mon...

Support for this statement?

If we're gonna keep our worst criminals in prison for life-long sentences, can't we use them for human testing of pharmaceuticals? It would help the FDA push through those drugs that are truly beneficial and keep them from approving those with serious side effects, ie Ephedra and Vioxx.

http://www.uvm.edu/~vlrs/doc/deathpenalty.htm or google "Cost of death penalty appeals process" and you will find lots of supporting arguments that life internment is a lot cheaper.

You know, you'd get a lot of flack too from the people that volunteer to test pharm drugs... people do make a living off that you know...
