Last time Fila was out he started his first hour with some wicked Prog House tunes & progressed from there.

i understand what you're goin for, but imo of all the djs in that line up, aly & fila stick out like a sore thumb. all the other djs can match up styles, but a&f is a vocal, fluffy outlier. wildly successful in their own right, but a bit of a head-scratcher to everyone who comes to support rooz, syd, hac and zabiela. just my own thought on the matter, i still wish the best of luck with the night... who know maybe a&f are more dynamic djs than we know them to be.

Flyer will give full details on event.

you'll see them both at edc...just not one after the other at a club...if that's any consolation.

spundae @ circus a couple of years ago had Donald Glaude and Blank n Jones the same night. We all thought it was a weird combo but it actually worked out REALLY well.

Posted by DaveT on May-15-2009 21:42:

B&J play electro??? Have seen them go on bits of kicks of it , then play their usual classics (over and over and over again).
Some other combos...

J00F & James Holden in LA (People didn't really stay for Holden.....swarmed in when J00F came on)
Markus & Scumfrog in SF (awesome night, worked out really well!)

So you have your hits & misses. JZ can play a bit harder/faster sometimes. I really like it when he does. Aly & Fila fans will largely dig him. They better. Not sure about the other way around.

Either way, no one can complain about Taj or anyone going after both acts when the opportunity is there. Simple as that. Only better for those of you whole dig both acts.

EDC will be great though!

well i just hope there's 2 rooms. 1 room with 6 djs on a friday night means 1-hour sets.

was this the same night as cosmic gate at avalon? if so i was there and hated glaude... cause he was delaying b&j and my schedule to head over to avalon

Circus right? If so then full on trance crowd will definitely not dig Holden... maybe pre 05ish Holden but even then its JF

Reminds me of Memek, Picotto and SvD at Webster Hall. Trance crowd... people hoping Picotto would play some hard trance like before but he didnt. Most everyone was bored til SvD. Myself, I fucking loved Memek's set! One of the best opening sets ever! Still get goosebumps thinking about it.

Multiple rooms. Flyer next week will explain everything.

Does this mean Aly & Fila have an early set time(thinking 6pm) for EDC? And probably a 2am start at 1015?

I would imagine so. They are the lowest card on the Flyer for Friday for the stage they are, so they prob open or play right after the local opener if there is one....and that thing opens at 4pm! Whenever they have up-and-comers for the first time at the big massives/festivals, they tend to pay super early sets.

Holy Shit Fila back already? we must have made a good impression...

I can totally see both points of views.

One being a number of music lovers finding their moment in the dance culture around the era when trance was defined as a global sound, so around 99-01. Next, what became a common thing is EDM genres in seperate rooms, this was one influence that lead to the idea that set by set a night should have a program, story or whatever you choose to call it.

The other is, Taj has been doing this even longer than I have and when I started in 94. 1994 - 1998 it was totally common to have different genres all in one room.

There was one massive here called Breakdown in 1998

The room order was:

DJ DB (yes drum and bass in the main room)
Grandmaster Flash (hip hop)
Mark Farina (house)

So many people were like ????? about this set order.

Til this very day, I have yet to see a room explode 4 hours non stop with 3 completely different genres of music. I'm talking mash pits with your hands in the air. It was absolutely f#%king nuts.

It was a total true moment of music lovers uniting. junglists? househeads? hip hop? it didn't even matter. The music was that good.

Posted by R!CH on May-16-2009 23:24:

for some odd reason i was thinking of shah when i said aly & fila were vocal and fluffy. now i remember aly & fila night was when i had to leave after 2 tracks because i had to carry some dbag who couldn't stand out of the club. so turns out i really don't know how they played last time and this might not be as odd a pairing as i initially thought. i guess i'm just gonna have to see for myself how this night goes...
