Originally posted by Skipper It is not collusion for companies to pass along a charge to you. It's kind of how business works. I didn't hear you crying collusion when every store gave you your bag for free.

Originally posted by ChemEnhanced I think people are missing the point here....it has nothing to do with the cost of the bags...its the fact that the government body is making a law stating that you have to pay for the plastic bags. What's next....having to pay for a receipt?

Originally posted by kaniz While there is an element to what you're saying I do agree with, along with fears of "nanny state"/etc, some things you get 'outraged' about leave me scratching my head a bit. Sort of like PETA, while at one level I can agree with part of their cause, but they are just such a bunch of whack jobs I have a hard time taking anything they do seriously.

I'd venture a guess that more people are likely to respond to a charge than a discount. Being charged for a bag = more likely to not get the bag. Where a discount is more likely to go unnoticed and not change consumer behavior that much.

How is it defeating the purpose? - Many people out right toss their grocery bags - They don't hold as much garbage |

Originally posted by Jayx1 To be honest all i need is a grocery bag every couple of days to manage my garbage.
Thats what people should do:
shop, go at the cash, and ask to see the manager if they want to charge you for a bag, if they don't want to give them out of convienience then so be it, leave everything there and leave.
or
I plan on briging grocery bags from other chains if I have to shop at those who charge, at least someone will get free advertizing.

Originally posted by Skipper I do understand it. Charging for something that costs a company money is something every company does. That doesn't mean they're all colluding.

Originally posted by jennypie Wtf are you talking about, protest? Lol. I started using fabric bags well before all this shit went down. Because it's more convenient...for ME. Everything else is irrelevant.

Originally posted by Jayx1 Exactly how are we now expected to throw out our garbage? So either a nickle a bag (which im told is supposed to STOP me from buying bags) or i shell out for garbage bags... or i get the paper liquor store bags which take MORE energy to produce and kill trees and causes a huge mess. This whole law stinks of socialist ideology and lacks in realism.
