I'm bored and feel like starting a feeble internet tift. I actually am fairly moderate in my views, the forums are just lacking this weekend in good stuff since everyone is away at DEMF

That was quite a hysterical liberal response, Banora.

Thanks, it what I am striving for.

Oh, of course not! I'm a dirty, hippie liberal douchebag who only sees things in black-and-white. I can't understand that just because you lean more towards one side of the political spectrum you can't have some traits from the other.

Nope, sure can't. Because everyone knows if you're one you can't even have a tiny spec of the other.

dude, take a pill.

you don't want to appear contradictory do you?

Lay it out on the table this time. Why do you keep defending a widely regarded form of torture?

Posted by Damerchi on May-24-2009 21:32:

goddamn...America needs a 3rd party badly.

i have, here and in the PDD, if you've read what i've posted instead of blaming "whitey" at the drop of a hat.

youre not a douchebag but some of the crap yoou post in the effort to be "edgy" politically qualifies as slight douchebaggery

EDIT> i'd don't want to debate this here in the COR so if you have an argument present it in the PDD. you know where you can find me.

I appreciate the fact that you don't think I'm a douchebag, I really try not to be, but I guess I'm a vagina when it comes to homeland security. I just don't think it's necessary to practically drown someone to get some names, even if they're not exactly innocent. Dick Cheney and the few "radical" conservatives left in the media try to blame the new administration for making the country less safe because they don't want to torture people. I just think it's a silly mudslinging orgy on both sides, but in my opinion, the conservatives are wrong this time. I personally think Obama was wrong on trying to shut down Guantanamo without any plan of what to do with the current residents, but I understand his reasoning. When over half the country agrees that "The United States does not torture", I have to be a mindless sheep and follow them, because it's my personal belief.

I like milk chocolate M&Ms. The peanut ones are good, too, but they give you peanut breath. And what am I, a fucking monkey?

i can totally dig your beliefs. they're sound and grounded in good intentions. and in a perfect world they're completely plausible.

however, i think it doesn't do Obama any credit to flatly believe that when push came to shove he would forego all the enhanced interrogation techniques that had been previously deemed legal just to please half of the nation to let a handfull of American's face a violent death. IOW he would waterboard. i have no doubt in my mind if he were unfortunately given the option.

little of what Obama has said during his presidency does not come with an expiration date, and a mere Executive Order prohibiting such means very little when his own party that has complete control of government has so far refused designing Federal statute prohibiting such.

I don't understand your hypothetical situation. When would it ever be appropriate to issue an order to waterboard anyone? I suppose if it's a matter of life or death for most of the country, then perhaps this "enhanced interrogation technique" (i love that buzzword btw, it makes it seem so harmless...) could be necessary if the United States were under such a critical situation, whatever it may be.

when all other techniques have failed.

this is no different from the scenario dealt with during the previous administration and the OLC documents Obama declassified reflect that and it's exactly why (among other partisaned political reasons) Congress hasn't as of yet backed up Obama's Executive Order.
