to be honest there's a lot of simple bad classical music too, most people just listen mozart, wagner, strauss and such

i think tracks like 'quietman - the sleeper' can easilly be musically and arrangement wise better than some of the worse classical tracks. i mean just because you have tempo changes doesn't make the track more musical.

Maybe it's different for you yanks but it's really not that uncommon to listen to EDM 'round here.

Except that I barely listen to it nowadays. Nor would I let anyone shove my headpieces to their ears anyway.

the one time that has actually happened was when i was listening to arabic music. she liked it.

Hah! Some of the responses I get are:

"Are you listening to that techno shit?" [me listening to some eurodance]

"Is this a new track by Benni Benassi / Basshunter?"

"What is the difference between techno and trance (or other combinations)?"

"It all sounds the same" [I love proving them wrong, and seeing the awe and shock when I correctly ID a track from 1-3 second sample - chosen by them]

99% of people I've met think that all electronic music is techno, all of it, Tiestos, Basehunters, Deadmice, Guettinas, etc

So many clueless fucks out there, its a terrible shame. So many people I know who hate techno yet they dont know anything about it.They cant name ONE or even TWO techno artists.

+1!!!!!!

all i really get is "wow that is some weird shitty music you should listen to lady gaga that is real music".

Posted by Meat187 on May-29-2009 10:13:

I got a great one when driving some friends and had (non-vocal) Trance playing in my car.
"I didn't know you listened to classical music."

I burst out laughing and almost drove off the road.

everyone i know listens to trance

Posted by floyd741 on May-29-2009 13:14:

I actually get it pretty bad since I live in an igorant town. Sometimes in class in the morning when theres no teacher I play it through my cell phone and I usually get "Turn that shit off", and when I have to explain the difference between techno and trance I get "Who cares it's all the same shit, some guy pushing a button over and over, anyone can make that shit", some people are just extremely ignorant. Then, in this stupid town the people that DO listen to EDM think Basshunter is god and Lady Gaga is queen of techno.

I am getting the fuck out of this place ASAP, just gotta finish 1 more year of high school

the best comment i got recently was a few days ago when we were driving, it was a long haul (for no reason might i add, and i was doing my friend and his girlfriend a huge favor). so of course i came prepared w/ mixes and what not. about 2 1 hr long mixes in, she goes "dude we've been listening to the same song on repeat for the entire drive"

I get that so often as well. I'll lend people my ipod, and they coming back talking about how there is no way someone could ever make one song 120+ minutes long or so.

that's actually a good comeback
if someone says "how can you listen to this, it doesnt have any words?"

you say

"neither does classical music and that does pretty well for itself"

What kind of stupid argument is that anyway?!
I know quite a lot of people think that way, but seriously, what the fuck!?

That's because you should keep your music to yourself and not play it through your piece of shit phone.

I get that very oftenly too.. So I never dared to play any trance aloud in class.
Only time was when my stupid friend played "eurodancer drifiting" over the loudspeaker and the teacher came in ... The Boom boom boom must have attracted lots of people

that's funny, beacause i remember when i played rank 1 - awakening off my ipod in a high school class one time through his computer's speakers. teacher came in and it was a bit of an awkward situation

Posted by d_bag on May-30-2009 06:07:

lol something like "this is so repetitive" and "there's no words to sing along to"

Both are untrue to a certain extent

Posted by euphoria on Jun-03-2009 18:51:

Electronic music is such a big part of my life, I find that I cannot be friends with people who don't like it. At one point I didn't have any friends that liked it...but I tried to convert them. Anyone who wasn't converted was simply phased out of my life over time. So when a friend listens to my earpiece they usually either say...

"Hey! I know this track, which remix is this?"

"This track is the shit, I heard DJ_______ play it at the club last week"

"This track isn't released yet, how the fuck did you get it?"

...........or something along those lines.

Well when they ride with me in my car, it's never a good experience. I've just made it clockwork to turn off my MP3 player as they are a guest in my vehicle.

Unfortunately, I usually do the same. Someone gets in my car and is immediately slammed with BOOM DIDDA WAUW DIDDA BOOM and they're like so I just shut it off now once I start the car to avoid any confusion.

Bah. They're the ones relying on you for the ride, so they should have to put up with whatever you decide you want to hear.

Posted by shotcolin' on Jun-04-2009 02:15:

yeah for sure...and anyways, unless your listening to really bad house, most people i come into contact these days with either dont mind or like it enough not to say anything...

Posted by elFreak on Jun-04-2009 02:19:

i find it funny that many of you think that musical taste is really one of the most important things when having friends.

don't get me wrong, i love music more than many people i know, but basing friendships on this alone is quite pathetic and probably explains why most of you have no friends.
