Sure business can keep the profits. Why do u think some of them have used this as an excuse to do this nationally? But i do wonder how long it will take for fed up consumers to force them to go back to the old way. I for one hate playing the guessing game when it comes to deciding how many bags i need. A lot of stores are now making you bag your own. Why when paying the prices at full service supermarkets should this inconvenience be the norm?

Bahahahahaha, yes, because it's such a fucking mind boggling endeavor.

Honestly now, it's called customer service. Before I had a car I used to shop at that god-awful Food Basics that charged for bags, and I didn't have a problem with that, but every time while they were ringing up shit they had to ask how many bags I needed. I'm looking at $200 worth of groceries trying to visually estimate, knowing that if I'm off by one I have to fish around in my wallet for change because the bill's already been paid. You're the one who's had 10 years of experience bagging the shit, how the fuck am I supposed to know? I don't care about the money, but don't ask me to do your job for you.

Is it mind-boggling? No, I guess not, but it's a goddamned inconvenience. It's like ordering a cheeseburger at McDonald's, being asked precisely how many minutes you want them to cook the patty for, then being handed the bun and patty and a slice of processed cheese on a tray and being told to assemble it yourself. If you're going to give these people jobs, they should be providing some kind of value for that money, and I don't think that scanning a bunch of bar codes really counts.

If I'm buying two items at Wal-mart, sure, I'll use the self checkout and bag it myself to speed things up. Not with 50 different grocery items. Part of the reason I'm there is to receive a service, and if one store doesn't want to provide it, I'll find another one that does.

Welp, at the end of the day, it's YOUR choice to get all worked about it. Which means the joke's on you, lol.

Posted by Abercrombie on Jun-03-2009 03:55:

I never had one cashier help me with how many bags at either no frills or food basics. More often than not, I paid for an extra bag that went to landfill. The only winner is the retailer who makes 300% profit margin on these bags, which are the highest GPM item in their store. Government doesn't get a penny. It makes no cents.

I'm just upset that I threw out hundreds of plastic bag a couple years ago... man if I had known they'd be worth something one day.

What are you trying to say, grocery (t-shirt) bags cost more than a nickel? You'll need to change your supplier if you're getting charged more than that. Google it.
We're not disturbed about Yorkville bags here.

gimme yo plastic baggies!

Anyone complaining about bringing their own means of transporting bags and boxes from the store into their kitchen - you need to seriously check yourself.

Shell out $10 and buy 6 or 7 sturdy ones that will last you a long time

what the fuck is the big deal?

"It's the cashiers job to provide me with the service of packing my tofu and lasagna"
What a crock of shit Aaron
Do you want them to wipe your ass for you too?

Posted by evil_cookie on Jun-03-2009 22:57:

Holy shit 5c/bag!? That's ridiculous! Who do they think I am, a billionaire?

I'm going to have to sit down with my accountant and seriously reevaluate my budget--now to mention the inconvenience. Life is so hard

Posted by elFreak on Jun-03-2009 23:28:

let's all stop doing groceries and eating, that will learn them good for taking my nickel dammit!

No, I want them to bag my groceries for me, because that's their fucking job.

You already wipe my ass, why would I need somebody else to perform that service?

If the government said you now had to bring your own plates to restaurants or else you had to pay for the plates you used and then the restaurant decided they wouldn't plate the food and you had to do it yourself, would you get pissed?

Posted by Reza on Jun-03-2009 23:52:

You want them to bag your groceries for you enough to write two paragraphs about it?

I had no idea you were such a lazy turd of an excuse for a citizen.

And you must have me mistaken for your mother, needle dick.

Posted by Abercrombie on Jun-04-2009 02:31:

I went to Sobey's today (btw, they got whole lobsters, canner size, frozen for only 1.99 each), and she asked me if I'll be needing bags. All I had to do was say yes, she bagged them, then added the bags to the bill. So yeah, it did take the annoying thought process I used to have at No Frills or Food Basics all the time, and often buying one bag too many there, contibuting to more waste.

So I paid an extra 20cents tonight, for a service I didn't have to pay for before.

Yeah, actually, I feel a bit like I'm repeating myself here but I want people to do their fucking jobs. You know, jobs, work, ever heard of it? And it took me a lot less time to write those two paragraphs than it would take for me to bag the groceries even once, much less over an entire lifetime. I guess I don't have as much practice as you do performing boring, menial tasks for chump change.

You see this is Canada, and unlike the shithole you apparently came from, people here have a concept called convenience, which means they're willing to spend money in order to have work done for them. It's not laziness, because we actually - get this - had to work in order to earn that money. I know you prefer communism where everybody has to do everything for themselves because the alternative is waiting 12 years for the government to do it, but try to understand, that's not how we do things here.

So effectively you're implying that people routinely mistake you for 66-year-old women with four grown kids. Yes, I see the resemblance.

Only morons spend 500 dollars on jeans; therefore, they have no right to bitch about plastic bags.
