This. But he's such a gift to humanity that people would have downloaded 700MB+ files anyway just to have his precious, hevenly music.

So basically he doesn't care if you steal his music, as long as you don't label it high quality when it isn't high quality. Good to know.

You better get tested.

It's just a fucking song, by Deadmau5 nonetheless. Besides, I'm sure Beatport would whore it everywhere because Deadmau5 is making rounds on his knees.

The funny thing is, complaining about dumb kids ripping tunes from sets is the least of your worries if you really care about good sound.

The #1 issue would be the thousands and thousands of venues, parties, and clubs that have horrible sound systems with DJs running every possible output in the red.

It doesn't matter what the quality of the music is if the systems you're playing it off are shit.

so basically:

good track -> good mastering/quality -> good sound system = awesomeness?

Posted by Existo22 on Jun-06-2009 22:22:

Don't kid yourself. Our ears cannot perceive difference of 32 bits 192 kHz vs. 24 bit 44.1 or even 16 bit 44.1 on a blind fold test.
This is what I call the CCPSS. The Cheap codex pronsumer soundcard syndrome.
This is the type of misconception alot of prosumer soundcards market their prosumer stuff on noobs who think that 192k will make a big difference in sound quality. It won't.
And I am hear to break that misconception.
Why should you listen to me?
Coz I am a god damn scientist!

Most likely your signal will have to be downsampled and that will further degrade the sound quality and introduce errors to the signal.
Speaking of digital errors have you seen what the ableton timestetching does to the signal? It is nasty.
I don't know if the fixed it but it was nasty last time I tried it.
Only saying the truth here.
A 1999 apogee ad-8000 will sound better than all the new 192 stuff even if it can only go up to 48.
Why? It is a proffessional converter with an original price tag of 5k. Good clock good analog stage good converter chips. Costs real money to make.
The key here is understanding how these soundcards converters work. The start with the base of 44.1 or 48 and double that or in your case multiply by 4.

If you take for example a 24 bit 96k signal?
What is the dynamic range it is capable of?
140
Go out and find me one piece of gear out there with real world electronics that is capable of matching that or even coming close and we can talk about quad after that.

If it is a good soundcard that uses the expensive chips and the company has spent the enormous amount of $35 per unit to implement a proper clock it will sound good on single.
If you are capturing at double or quad you are just wasting your hardisk space and processing power and the only difference in sound you are likely to hear is the sound of your computer begging you for mercy as it crashes and freezes and ruins your take.

As far as mp3 goes yes it does degrade the signal a wee bit.
Reverb tails don't sound the same the bass doesn't sound the same
it will be degraded a little bit.
The key is making sure the record sounds good even after the mp3 compression.
You tube does degrade the signal but the purpose of youtube is video not audio. If you look at the million hits videos receive every day there you will quickly realize that most people could not begin to give a shit about hearing the full sound with all the little details.
If they can log on you tube and make fan videos with pics comments and sequences from other videos then for them, the whole sound plus image and video along with an interactive community is a far better experience.

But the f*****n myspace player is where we can all agree to draw the line.
What this does to the signal is criminal I am with you all the way on this.

There have been other producers and djs out there that got famous and made it through the years... Yet none of them seem to inspire so much hatred as this deadmau5 guy.
I have seen some of his songs on youtube and I think some of this stuff sounds pretty good to me...

But does anybody care to explain to me why everybody hates this guy?

Posted by idoru on Jun-07-2009 01:25:

Let me start this post off by saying that FML is an absolute abomination of a "tune." Fucking horrible and completely uninspired; I heard stuff almost identical to that track about ten years ago.

So someone labeled something "HQ" when it wasn't. Really? That's what you're bitching about when there are a million more important things instead of what one website labels a track of yours? Fucks sake. People who actually value music and are going to actually care about real audio quality aren't the people who are going to be listening to your music on Youtube. The people who are, in fact, using Youtube to listen to your music are the casual listeners who don't know the difference between a 128MP3 or a .WAV file. These people just like music from time to time and will go, "Oh, cool, that Deadmau5 guy is in town, guess I'll go see him." These aren't your hardcore fans, audiophiles, DJs or producers.

Bitching about it is moot point. Just more of Joel's whining.

Twin Peaks is the shit though.

There's a tooth joke in their somewhere...

I think he is just talking, not whining or being condescending toward anyone.
If we are going to be making desperate grabs at Deadmau5s subliminal text, may I suggest that he is promoting vinyl over digital?

"Desperate grabs"?

Posted by DJ Blitzkrieg on Jun-07-2009 05:55:

I get what he's saying but I don't think anyone goes on to YouTube really thinking they're listening to the highest quality version of the song. I mean I just see it as a sample and if I like the song I'll go buy it on Beatport. It was a good read, although I'm really sick of the whole audiophile thing. I think sometimes people get so caught up in how good it sounds than how good the actual content of the song is. Which brings me to my next point. FML is a terrible song lol.

I also love how the comments on the video are along the lines of "dude you pissed off deamau5 so bad. i hope you rot in hell."

Umm...you're still a DJ even if your not using discs or vinyl. You're just a laptop DJ. Ableton imitates everything that a mixer and decks would provide minus the MIDI controllers.
