That's it? No "how I got arrested and sent to a mental institution in Germany" story this time?

1999 was the first year for that model. Never buy the first year models. A lot of people have problems with them and its not just VW on that fact.

Its just an A3. It didnt evolve. If it had 320hp with all motor, it would have been a better evolution of the car. Way out classed by other cars like Evo and STI. Those are the cars its trying to compete against and losing badly.

Well if you aren't running a V8/10/12 or something with lots super/turbo charging and throwing it down through all 4, you're driving whitegoods.
Practical, yes, fast... no. 0-100km/h in 6.something seconds is not fast.

(yes I am a car snob)

Grossly impractical!
Good on long trips but she's too wide to fit in most normal car parks so it doesn't get used much. I bought HRH a little white 2nd hand MX5 last christmas to practice driving a manual gearbox and its cute... its also about $1500 cheaper than replacing the GTO's 6speed, uh... no because I love her, honest!

Is it really that wide? If you'd gone for an R34 instead (which I seem to remember you considering at the time), would it be skinnier? I've never really considered the width of those sorts of cars. Good for handling though, I imagine.

Handling? Ahahaha I love when people talk about handling and all that stuff. Coz yea you know, everyone drives their car at 150km+ on the race track every day

Posted by Lilith on Jun-13-2009 07:01:

It's about half a foot or so wider than the GTR I think, handles ok but its still a real handful because its a physically big vehicle. Put it this way, even my Caprice was easier to park and they're not exactly small!

So 'handling' only applies to high speeds, and race track driving? Ok mate

It's that much wider?

I guess I just haven't seen many around to get a proper idea. Plenty of R34s everywhere these days though.
