many times at small parties at people's houses ill see someone will put on that music choice cable channel, the one that shows a picture of the artist and interesting trivia/facts about the artist while the song plays. mtv probably wants to tap into that. maybe late at night like amp used to do.

Last one was actually pretty catchy.

This stuff doesn't really depress me because it's so obviously a bunch of kids being silly and having a laugh. Just stupid fun IMO.

eh, i guess. i think some of it is kind of offensive though in how it re-appropriates rap, an integral part of black culture, while simultaneously stripping it of the very elements that actually make it so interesting. iirc brokencyde actually say "nigga" in a couple of their songs

Rap itself (or hip hop more broadly I guess) is all about re-appropriation. It's an art form that started out by reusing old beats in new musical contexts, and still does so today. And as far as I can tell they're mostly re-appropriating a kind of rap (crunk) that isn't exactly known for its lasting cultural value or ingenuity. I think some black people would even be offended or at least annoyed to see crunk used as a representative example of "black culture."

haha yeah i'm certainly not claiming that soulja boy should be viewed as an ambassador of black culture. and i have nothing wrong with white people rapping; it's a form of music that lends itself to expression about a wide range of issues. it's just that the attitude of crunkcore is about the emulation of a culture that middle class white teenagers do not - and cannot - understand. it's the same attitude that leads to "ghetto parties" where white people dress up "like black people" - excessive jewelry, loose fitting clothing, etc. - and even sometimes go full blackface. if these kids think it's acceptable for them, as white people, to call each other "nigga", it's not too far away.

maybe i'm just hypersensitive on this issue, i dunno
