Finally settled my claim.
Insurance company ended up paying $1,800 for the tow truck bill, paid me $2,500 for the car and my insurance doesn't go up since it was considered a 'flood'
Although, the adjuster told me, technically it is an single car accident but because there is no report they couldn't call it that therefore they couldn't put the blame on me
haha so I guess I'm lucky the cop didn't give me a report, phew!
p.s. the insurance company is trying to hunt down the cop lol

Good luck to them....the police barely ever return calls to insurance people.

wow. that's crazy.
so the murder happened at someone's house and they are claiming the clean up under their home policy?

The murder was in an apartment. We are on for the apartment building owners. Most likely the costs will be covered as its an all risk policy and murder clean up isn't excluded in the wording.

Do I need to get listed as an occasional driver on Margaret's new car?

If you live together and you do drive her vehicle then you should be listed as an occasional driver on the policy.

That explains why the assholes expected *me* to somehow do all the legwork to get a copy of the police report when my car was stolen. As if I didn't already have enough shit to worry about at the time.

probably not.... just getting a report is easy; however, for us to get one it takes weeks to months and in some jurisdictions a court order (thanks RCMP); whereas, the person involved can walk in to the station and walk out with it in minutes. Essentially, had your adjuster ordered the report from WRPS it probably would have taken 3-4 weeks extra to resolve your claim.

Great, except that I wasn't the one who called the police, security did, and it was 4 AM when I filled out the paperwork, so I wasn't exactly thinking hard about what the insurance company was going to need. I'm sure it would have been easy if I had known which police station to go to, what case number to cite, and/or which officer to talk to. Not to mention that it would have involved driving through 3 cities in my shitty rental car with no 407 transponder. So yeah, not quite so easy.
It was a theft, not a collision. I don't see what was so important in that report anyway. And I never did go to the police station so obviously they found a way. At some point the police officer called me back to get some sort of information, I forget what, but I gave his name to the adjuster, maybe that's how they got the report.

Does this "clean up" involve major renovations?
You could pretty much strip an average apartment and rebuild everything for that much.

nope...just cleanup. Crime scene cleanup is very costly, usually because of the hazardous waste (blood). You need special licencing to do blood clean up and typical charges are between $115.00 to $125 per hour.

you could do that but you would still have to pay tons of money for disposal of the blood covered parts which costs an arm and a leg. it's ridiculous the fees the university has to pay to deal with garbage from the science labs. everything has to be sterilized, shredded and incinerated.
