Thats not the same thing, I am saying if you carry a cell phone (who doesn't these days) then why do you need a watch as well? Girls maybe, since they keep their phones in their purse a lot of times, but guys why?

And for me at least I can't stand having shit on my wrist, it makes me feel awkward.

i've always wanted a Rado watch. i've got a fake one and it looks the real deal but if i can ever justify spending 4 thousand pounds on a watch it'll be a Rado one.

Mine:

Don't wear it to work but wear it everywhere else. It's atomic and smells like campfire.

I wear this

I have nearly bought this for myself a couple of times now, but I keep talking myself out of it

Maybe for Christmas

Because it's about fashion, not function. Well, it does have one function, but not the obvious one of time-keeping: that is, signaling the wealth of the wearer.

If you want to have hipster's time:

so every time you want to look good it is all about flaunting wealth?

come the fuck on now. you don't have to be rich to want to look well put together, nor are you pretending to be if you are well put together.

for instance, the watch i posted does not even cost 1000$, that is not that much money.

Posted by Ash Parajuli on Jul-29-2009 23:35:

not a watch person as i always have my iPhone with me so I just have a look at the time on that.

im guessing a lot of people in this day & age just use their mobile phone to check out the time.

I said signaling, not "flaunting." And I wouldn't say it's entirely about wealth, either. But no one needs accessories like watches to look "good or well-put-together." They're peacock plumes.

i could buy the cheapest piece of shit suit on the rack if i wanted to as it would be all that i need, but fuck that...believe it or not in the business world appearances are important.

you don't need that moog you have, there are cheap vst's out there...get rid of it then

Posted by lenazi on Jul-29-2009 23:48:

what is the point of making a dollar if you can't spend it?

I agree. It would be hard to take someone seriously if you were trying to wrap up an important business deal and you saw them pimping a Timex.

no

people want to give their money to people who look like they make it. (obviously qulifications are important..but 2 people with the same qualifications, one is slick the other looks like his mom dresses him..slick guy gets the deal EVERY time)

you'll understand one day if you ever get a real job and move out of mom's place.

Nope.

If thats the case then I'll just trust fund my life away...

Unlike you guys I have the best accessory... A silver spoon!

Posted by lenazi on Jul-29-2009 23:54:

haha... as elfreak said, no that wasn't sarcasm. you gotta project an image to a degree. You wouldn't wear flip flops with a suit, would you?

lol @ the silver spoon comment.

we have a guy at work that wears sketchers with a suit. our boss told him a few weeks back to go buy some shoes because people visiting the office would confuse him for the mail boy

No but there are different looks associated with different fields of work and the different markets you are trying to attempt to get into.

If I was hiring a designer and he showed up in a suit and looking all spiffy and shit I would think "this guy tries too hard to make a good first impression, I bet his work is lack luster."

Now I would hope that wouldn't bias my looking at his portfolio (which is what really counts in a position like that) but I am human and on some level it might.
