| Originally posted by DJ Robby Rox I watched the airbase tutorial and I hate to say that sounds amateur as shit imo. But yeh it works when you cover it up with acidlines and synths. Anyway let me read more in this thread and more importantly get my FLPs up. If someone can tell me ANYTHING, this thread was already worth it imo. Well no that sounds selfish, this thread is already worth it because theres a lot of good info and links in it, this is not about just me if thats how I'm coming off. Its about people helping each other which is what it should always be about. |
It's not just effort. Effort does not equal outcome. I think everybody here understands your frustration, but it takes most people years to get that truly "pro" sound, and that's with a lot of talent (not saying you don't have any, I don't know you, but natural talent expedites the process).
The difference here is that those people take failures or marginal improvements as motivation to hone their skills, whereas people like you blame their tools or whoever/whatever else they can point the finger at.
I see this attitude everywhere. In systems, people blather on about Microsoft and clueless management. In trading, people cry about manipulation. On the road, other drivers "came out of nowhere". People who can't get in shape, blame it on their body type and assume that the bodybuilders all take steroids. In business, they'll cite unfair competition and a bad consumer economy. And in media production, producers blame it on the software and assume that the professionals have magical tools that just sound better than anything the amateurs have access to.
And not once in their lives do any of these people ever stop to consider that the majority of the pros all had to face the same challenges. They had to put in a ridiculous amount of work, often because it represented their livelihood, and deal with failure after failure after failure, but they didn't give up on it, because they assumed that the problem must have been with them and was therefore solvable.
You can feel free to pat yourself on the back for getting responses because you bitched like a girl, but you would have gotten better responses if you'd approached the discussion maturely. And you'll definitely get better results in your actual production efforts if you grow up.
Last but not least, I'm somehow not surprised that you found a way to discount the example(s) you've listened to so far as being shit. I bet that if somebody handed you a sample and didn't tell you whether or not it was hardware or software, you wouldn't be able to tell, but as long as it's labeled as software, you're going to say it doesn't sound good. Once you learn to get over yourself, then you can start to improve.
Who or What is a Pro Mid Bass to you?
If you provide examples perhaps people can help, ill stick up a sample of a FL project i made of resound to help me learn. There is one Offbeat bassline and One midbass in this.

Oh, lord. Please don't let this turn into a software vs. hardware debate.

You seem to have read a thread titled "I need to be pyschoanalyzed by a Dr. Phil wannabe". Seriously, the topic is clear and simple and so are the things I asked. Go back and read as it was all clearly stated. If I'm imature, your inability to pay attention to detail and direction makes you what? |

Now my response for some other folk:
Nighshift - I asked for FLPs for a specific reason. You listed nothing but mp3 and youtube links. I don't know where you heard, or who told you, or where you read that such and such used FL Studio and only vsts. But it really means nothing if you can't submit an FLP.
I just can't choose to believe something w/out seeing it with my own eyes.
--------------------------------------------
Mr. Jive - I have used 1 pos piece of hardware. But I have SEEN and HEARD other pieces so I know what they can do sonically. Well I don't I know how good they can sound w/out exploring them with my own hands (which is the issue right? *my own hands*)
So how is it that in that respect it works for the synths favor (in terms of superior sound quality)? Not against?
If I can know a synth is better just by hearing it, and not even touching it, that synth needs to be that much better because I couldn't get my tweak crazy fingers all over it.
--------------------------------------------
Cryo - That is a very interesting idea I think I may take you up on it
I would love to compare the results just to see.
--------------------------------------------
Evo & Trancl8r - you both make good points. I may have to reiterate what I'm looking for more clearly to Trancl8r and Evo it is all subjective but to a degree, a degree I will also need to clarify so you understand how subjective I'm really not being.
--------------------------------------------
Stef - putting someone down THEN saying "I don't wanna put you down" is just plain fvckn stupid shit. I'm not sure how to address you based on that logic, so I'm best off concluding it would be like talking to a wall.
--------------------------------------------
Owsey - you are right on every point you make. Yes vsts can make good sounds, but there is still such a huge difference from the sound quality of more well known pros I suppose like Armada. If you wear a pair of headphones listening to Armada, then you wear a pair of headphones off tranceaddict to a "well produced" trance track, pro or w/e you would call it, you can actually hear the difference by way the woofer in the headphone tickles you ear.
The bass just sounds louder, wraps around the kick like a puzzle piece, and sounds so deep and rich. It has something to do with the level of the bass I think, they bring it up so high w/out distorting anything that it the entire bass sounds deeper and fuller.
This is so hard to fuckn explain gzz..
---------------------------------------------
BeatFlux-
No, I'm looking for a bass that sounds good with a kick, and possibly even a bit of percussion. The type of bass pros can intro with nothing but the kick, bass, and a bit of percussion but when you hear it loop over and over you actually seem like you can hear it for the next 3 hours and not get bored if the pattern never changed.
---------------------------------------------
The 6th - You are right I'm getting to it just reading and responding to everyone post is taking longer then I expected lol and I couldn't dl your file kept getting "invalid http", was just clicking the link.
Overall its obvious I just need to get samples of both up and describer more specifically what I'm talking about.
I suppose I can understand how some of you can be confused, I really need to refine my question and make my point.
I'll get back to this thread in the morning, really getting too late for all this now.
Spelling fuck as "Fvck" is just "plain fvcking stupid shit"
Dj Robby Rox, what you need to do is read this thread, and the other one, carefully. Then go into FL or where ever. Concentrait JUST on making bass for 1 full week. One Full Week. Only bass. Don't add a kick drum. Don't add a pad. Practicing making a bass, an awesome bass, that stands by itself and still sounds awesome. Then come back in a week, post the MP3s, and post what you think needs work from your mp3s. And I am sure everyone will GLADLY help you.
To everyone else, I say we don't respond to him on the subject of Basses untill:
A. A week has passed.
B. He posts MP3s of his stuff.
Force him to practice, and don't feed him words, otherwise we will get another thread down the shitter. And trust me, i'm an expert on threads going down the shitter. :P

Grow up seems to be the appropriate response here.
The most i can tell you is what worked for me. You need to fix that negative attitude, then fix the sound you are trying to make. You will never get anywhere if you sit down and say "ok i have to make a track thats going blow up beatport and get on asot."
You are like the Paris Hilton of this forum.
