Man, I dunno. It just doesn't click with me. I "want" it to, but it just doesn't do the trick.

I like some damn repetitive music, but when you can have someone click the progress bar all over the track and not have any idea that you have moved in the song... it's a little much. I can listen to a good four-bar loop for a while, but these loops just aren't good enough for to hear for several minutes in a row.

I'm sure, drugged out in the middle of a crowd, it would do the trick.

I like the Buttrich tracks posted in here much better. Is all of Rob Hood's work similar to what you posted, or is that just all that I've heard? I'd be interested in seeing if he had something else to offer.

Yea I dont get the whole Robert Hood cult following myself. Its the kind of techno that parents hear and think, what the heck are these kids thinking?

But I think the records are more for layering and hyperactive dj's who can't stop moving their hands and fidgeting. Posting the tracks on youtube individually doesnt help them much.

Plus I dont get why all of the tracks are so fast. If he slowed down a bit I might be able to feel some semblance of a groove. But you need to get below 130 to do that

Very true, good point. I could see them working well as a DJ tool.

Agreed on slowing them down, though.

His style can vary quite a lot, his early stuff was like ultra minimalistic, skeleton techno, later he started to make deeper and funkier techno, although still quite minimalistic. He's interesting, at least for me, because even if his music is completely disposed of any unnecessary elements, you can still hear that specific Detroit warm sound in it, which is not the case with some other names of early minimal techno (Plastikman, Mika Vainio...).

My favourite track from him (this is like the definition of minimal techno, his most memorable track):



Something newer (you'll probably like this more, it sounds deeper, more modern and polished):

as with anything, you're an idiot if you play only rob hood style minimal techno in a set, its power comes through its dynamic relationship with other tracks.

I just don't get it, I suppose. The second two were okay but nothing that I would seek out or care to listen to by any means. I think I'd rather cut my ears off than listen to Minus again. I just find it to be absolutely terrible.

Yeah, I hear ya there.

For me, the only time I'd be able to talk myself into using one of these tracks would be strictly as a DJ tool to layer over something else... and a simple one-bar loop would suffice rather than 6 - 8 minutes of that loop. (onoz gtfo laptop djs)

There was a time where most techno was at 135-140bpm. Now if you go over 125 it's too fast :/

Not to speak for him or anything, but having known Clovis for years I can safely say that he is fantastically well-versed in his knowledge of musical history, both in electronic music and beyond. His palette of musical interests is incredibly diverse and he knows what the fuck he is talking about.
