people care about their job when they have a job worth caring about. customer service is probably the most expendable and low level job in any organization. everyone in there wishes they were doing something else. as you move up the totem pole, you will generally find the level of intensity to be much higher. at the highest level, it is cut throat and a rat race all at the same time. then people will be complaining about lack of empathy and compassion.

exactly, that's why it's good to have your managers like you. i'm cool with all of them, in fact we were all walking & someone said something about being wet, & i pulled a 'thats what she said' joke but very low so only my friend could hear-- my manager heard but we all started to laugh so hard, it's cool to be in good terms.

i'd hate myself too if I was 30 and worked at a call center with shitty pay my whole life. I'd probably be ok doing it as a part time job during college or something just to get an allowance to go out, but not as the job I rely on to get food on the table.

in India, call center jobs are fairly high paying and highly sort after. it's not the same as US call centers.

i know and that's why i said it's mostly the people in charge who are to blame for not taking care of/showing appreciation to their employees. people need to feel a part of something in order for them to treat it as their own.

They don't care because they're working for big companies where any effort they expend is just a drop in the bucket and where they could be replaced easily inside of a few days. People will be disgruntled if they feel like they're expendable and doing pointless work that won't amount to anything a week from now.

No body takes pride in their job any more and shit falls through the cracks, orders are deleted/misplaced, refunds not refunded as promised, and then you lose time because you have to call customer service and you end up talking to some toolbag in fucking India even though the company's headquarters is right up the street. And as much as I love the food and the people/culture, I FUCKING HATE THE INDIAN ACCENT. Why? WHY do I get someone who sounds like a robot with an Indian accent every time I need to call a company about a mistake THEY made?

No one does what the fuck they are supposed to do because no one gives a shit about their job any more and it's pissing me off.

They never give me a problem

Bullshit. I guarantee they give your olfactory senses problems.... stinky mothafuckas.

I meant I deal with them on the phone lol.

I'm in advertising - we use certain accounts to pay for certain advertising and I have to call to make sure everything is registered to the right account

they sound like a robot because americans are fucking stupid, and the OS call centre people have been taught to talk differently because the insular, ignorant yanks can't understand anyone with a different accent. so what you're getting isn't really an indian accent, its a distorted indian accent trying to speak american. and i agree, it sounds fucking awful.

Posted by djhaziel on Aug-08-2009 03:18:

I lol at the indian accent

I deal with that every day at school with some of my classmates , believe me slylee they are aware that their accent is not the coolest one in the world

Right, because people from every other country are much better at understanding their native language when it is mangled. Most Americans don't have a hard time with all foreign accents, Indian is just especially difficult. If they customer svc reps aren't pronouncing the language in a way that their customers can understand, they're not doing their job.

yes, they are. when watching britain's got talent, nobody in australia (or any other part of the world) needed subtitles for susan boyle. the fact you don't appreciate the levels of insularity in your society just proves my point.

which is why indian and south-east asian call centre employees undergo huge training sessions to americanise their speech, so americans can understand them.

completely missing the point. you're throwing all the blame at employees in foreign call centres, (because you know, its really easy to change the way you speak a language you've spoken your whole life) rather than the american companies that outsource all their labor costs.

oh please. these poverty-ravaged countries know far more about the value of work and taking pride in their job than your entitlement-ravaged, insular and hugely ignorant collection of consumers.

Indeed. I can (predictably) confirm everything you just said.

What kind of retards need sub-titles to understand an accented version of their own language?
