And the winner is: DJ Tiesto ?

Posted by breakdown on Mar-31-2001 10:30:

i don't think armin can spin ALL da time.. because he's studyin too... so yea

Posted by Jukx on Mar-31-2001 12:43:

Drunk

ARMINNNNNNNN! Gielen is a nice DJ though too commercial IMO! wearing a shirt of Safri Duo.. pffff, why not a shirt of the Backstreet Boys!?

ps. Although Johan Gielen lived the last 8 years in Holland, he still is from BELGIUM!! So I don't know why we Dutch-people always claim him to be Dutch.

>>>ARMIN<<<

(... but ... well ... i like Gielen too)

Posted by PSi on Mar-31-2001 17:26:

AvB 110% baby yeah!!

Posted by moogwai on Mar-31-2001 17:56:

VERY different question... I like both DJ-skills and productions/remixes... can't choose

But the picture from Johan Gielen is taken at Time-Out when I was there too
What a great performance that evening... I heard for the first time The Moon - Blow The Speakers and Safri Duo - Played-A-Live (Airscape Remix)

I also know the guy in de middle of the photo... he's webmaster of www.ferry-corsten.com and www.dancemaniamusic.com. He did interview Johan Gielen and Marco V in Time-Out that evening

LOL... I'll see him @ Massive on the 29th of April... Fuck, I can't wait. It'll be the first time I see him live, this should be fuckin' great. He's the turntable magician to me.

My vote goes for Armin. Check out the first picture posted in this thread: The man seems te be God himselve.

dwingo u lucky #$@%!
im just j/kin, but seriously, why is it that noone in toronto won't bring AvB? so many excellent djs are brought here on weekly basis, yet the best of the best has never been here?! this sucks

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Mar-31-2001 22:20:

just by the virtue of stuff posted on this site.. ive never had a chance to see either of them unfortunately...
And yes, live @ club O ROCKS!!!!!!!
DaNNy

My number one choice is of course VINCENT DE MOOR....

As far as overall productions.... Johan gielen has the edge on armin on sticking with nice melodic/uplifting trance...Not one bad tune by gielen/airscape...
As far as remixes... Both of them do an excellent job.. and it is very even in this category.. yet, how can one do a remix of "dont call me baby"???? COme on, that is an insult to the trance community.. And i can name a few more...
As far as music selections in picking/playing tunes...Johan gielen is way more consistent in choosing better melodic/uplifting trance... I really dont like a lot of tunes armin picks... I know he has a liking to house music which i cant stand... So, overall Gielen gets my thumbs up. For all of you picking armin van buuren....If you don't know gielens work that well... You need to get:

Airscape- L'esperanza (the armin mix is good too)
liquid feat silva- turn the tide (airscape)
scooter- im your pusher(airscape)
chicane- halcyon (airscape)
myths and dj cosmo- hymn (airscape)
kosmonova- danse avec moi (airscape)
airscape- amazon chant
airscape- pacific melody
alice deejay- the lonely one (airscape)
rmb- deep down below (airscape)
even did a good job from the vengaboys for gods sake
vengaboys- kiss (airscape)
johan pres. a special person- we move like shadows (k90 remix is good too)
they even did a good remix on that bongo drum song which i cant stand and i cant remember the name....
bombario- the beginning (airscape)
I know im missing more... but im not home to remember all the tunes...Feel free to add more of their good remixes..

Posted by eurotrancefla73 on Mar-31-2001 23:37:

i remember it.. safri duo- played out.. i mean played alive..(airscape)
and the delerium- silence (airscape) is decent too... even though i am not a big fan of the silence tune....

King

By far Armin!! I love both his productions and his live sets. Johan Gielen is a very good dj , but I'm not the biggest fan of his productions, with of course honorable exceptions.

Peace

they both are winners but armin is more quality and better. armin produced and remix better tracks

Posted by DJ Guangzhou on Apr-02-2001 19:19:

How about someone with real skill? Perhaps Nick Warren. Or maybe Dave Seaman or Steve Lawler. Or if you neeeeeeeed someone Dutch, Lucien Foort or Tiesto. In other words someone who leaves me guessing what the next track is going to be, one thing both AvB and Gielen can't seem to accomplish.

Seaman vs Armin...

uh different dj's..but still no comparison..

Why is it that you can't compare them? Just because they play different styles of music? Music style is just one element of djing. There is also technique, crowd control, etc., etc., etc. If you wanted to you could compare DJ Krush to Danny Howells. The fact of the matter is you love Armin for his song picking capabilities. Ask anyone who has spun for awhile and they will tell you Armin is not that great of a dj. While I enjoy the occasional AvB, I know that he has very predictable set lists. Not taking musical risks is a sign of a rather inexperienced dj. My opinion. Obviously not yours. I respect that, you should do the same.

Posted by breakdown on Apr-03-2001 02:54:

actually i would say that dave seaman is one of the most talented and underrated DJ's on this planet..
he never fails to amaze me

Uh...i do respect ur opinion. Disagreeing does not= disrespect. Here in Ny people Love a dj named jonathan peters, i think he is lame, but that doesn't mean I disrespected him I just don't like his style. As 4 Armin give him a break he is probably ur age...
