Tiesto was better for sure but nowdays i cant stand his music. At least Armin once in a while produces something nice such as "Rush Hour"

| Originally posted by Domesticated Shivers - awesome, awesome bassline. Mediocre vocals but there is a dub mix available which remedies this. Secretly though, I like to dress up in women's underwear and sing along to this one with a hairbrush in my hand. "SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVEEEERS, UP AND DOWN MY SPINE!" |
love it
Tiesto based on
Dallas 4pm
the magiakal remakes
gouryella/tenshi/walhalla w/ferry
his work with benno for kamaya painters
magik journey
Making sparkles so Transa could make an awesome remix of it
Remix of delerium - innocente and similarly sounding one from sweet surrender
Armin has done some nice stuff, just not as much, plus he's responsible for armada music so loses a point for every shit release on there
notably good however
exhale w/ferry
blue fear
communication part one. aka his remix of li kwan - point zero - no need for anymore parts though
aria - dido remix
yahel - devotion remix
clear blue moon (his best work)
I never really was hooked by Armin's productions before. I mean they're good, but nothing memorable, Blue Fear, Communication are both good tracks IMHO and those are the only two I can top off in my head, but there are a lot more Tiesto tracks I'd rather listen to than Armins. His work with Ferry Corsten, In My Memory tracks, Forever Today is underrated. And that's without thinking.
Lately, I haven't been keeping up with the big names, I just usually listen to material posted in the producer's forum here.

I think Tiesto has a better sense for melodies, especially with his earlier classics. His work with Gouryella was top-notch in every way, but that can of course be attributed to Corsten's influence (especially with Ligaya, he basically produced that himself)
I really don't think either of them is inherently "better" than the other, though. They're both respectable artists who venture out of the realm of trance every now and then to produce some very good downtempo/vocal arrangements, and neither of them shy away from trance tracks that conveys emotions other than the happy/uplifting feelings modern tracks generally try to convey.
What it probably comes down to is personal preference, in which case Armin gets my vote.
Armin I guess,
also because of Lilmotion - D-Groovy
Gouryella stuff is obviosly all Ferry produced, to even hint at Tiesto even being a co-producer makes me laugh, more of a idea comer upper if anything.
I'd have to go with Tiesto, I like more of his (well his lackeys) productions and remixes than I do Armins.
Armin
Exhale (produced with Ferry Corsten)
Burned With Desire
Communication Part 2
Shivers
Control Freak (so Sander van Doorn could make an epic remix of it
)
Tiesto
Adagio For Strings (remix)
Walhalla (produced with Ferry Corsten)
Suburban Train
Theme from Norefjell
Lethal Industry
Sparkless
I'd go for Tiesto.
Tiesto, hands down.
Armin actually can produce. So that kinda settles it.
Interesting comparison because both are only mediocre producers of their genre.
Probably Armin... if only for Blue Fear.
I like both of them, but tiesto more.
Definitely Tiesto - at least back in the day... In My Memory was an excellent album, and I still think Suburban Train is the best epic trance song ever. Armin has a few nice songs ("Song For The Ocean" dub, "Blue Fear", "Communication") but a lot of it just seems too overproduced and dull.
A bit off topic but what about their remixes?
I really liked Armin's remix of Human, Tiesto's A Life So Changed was pretty awesome imo.
they both are horrible...id say armin.
Tiesto all the way, here's proof:
Armin is a good producer, again "Empty State" is a solid track. But "A tear in the open" is just as solid for me. Tiesto just has a more tangible sound for me even though they both can't produce for shit. I'd say stick to Djing but who am I to say
I want to be a pirate
armin is technically better - but tiesto writes better tunes
