That's what I'd probably do.

Have you recently switched soaps or laundry detergent?

You are having an allergic reaction, but may be it's something you wouldnt normally think about like a product you use on your skin or something. Also the rash sounds like eczema.

also

why? not everyone has health insurance and there are some doctors/nurses on here

anyway pro how are you feeling? did it go away?

i got a rash on my right shoulder after i moved to NY a few weeks ago. it hasn't gone away yet... and it doesn't itch or hurt. it's just a bunch of little bumps.

sounds like an allergic reaction or maybe stress related? our bodies do weird things when we go through major life changing events.

Shit, I will be one too in a few years

It certainly does sound like an allergic reaction, and it's absolutely incredulous that a doctor would tell you it isn't without running any sort of diagnostic tests. I'm surprised you wouldn't have questioned him about that.

Posted by Ian on Aug-17-2009 07:42:

it's too late Jenn. She'll be dead by now.

Posted by lenazi on Aug-17-2009 14:13:

you have a shit doctor.

i've had this happen. My hands as well as my penis were swollen like 5 times normal size. Anti inflamatories and allergy meds did the trick. Ibuprofen has some anti inflamatory properties so you could try those.

A shot of epinephrine may work if it's an allergy. This happened to me once when a doctor prescribed me a medication which had an ingredient I was alleric to. I didnt even know the allergy existed until I took this medication. My face turned beat red and swollen to the point where I could hardly see out of my eyes and I had a rash all over my body.

If you think its an allergy there is a test that can be done that will determine what you may be alleric to if you are unable to find the cause.

It could be anything from food, soap you are using, detergent for your clothing, think really hard on anything new you have introduced into your life.

In the meantime a washcloth dipped in cool water over your face will soothe the pain from the swelling. Taking a bath with oatmeal or aveeno sensitive skin bath will help with the rashes.

Since Pro hasn't replied here in two days, chances are my initial diagnosis was correct and she did indeed die.

Posted by lenazi on Aug-17-2009 14:49:

just like bidor.

Posted by prolikewhoa on Aug-18-2009 16:50:

no, not dead. i've just been taking benadryl and excedrin. the swelling is almost all the way gone and the rash is getting better. i also had inflammed tonsils? so that was weird. but yeah i'm feeling much better!

Posted by Silky Johnson on Aug-18-2009 19:27:

So did you get a new doctor? Or go back and give this asshole you saw shit? You better believe that's what I'd be doing, lol.

yea i would pretty annoyed too.

i was misdiagnosed in the ER a few years ago. they sent me on my way with a script for nexium and told me i had "peptic ulcer disease". i have never been so goddamn sick in my life, i missed almost 3 weeks of work because i couldn't keep any fluids down (this was AFTER i went to the ER with severe abdominal pain). finally my boyfriend at the time told me to stop taking the nexium because he figured it was the meds making me sick and sure enough, i was perfect within 2 days of not taking the nexium. it was the meds the whole time fucking me up and not only that, but i followed up with my primary care doctor and he was appauled at what the ER doc said/gave me as a script. i didn't have an ulcer it was more like some sort of bacterial thing in my stomach/viral thing going around.

and i would also like to point out that this was during a time when i had an HMO health care plan (not the good kind that pay well) and so they didn't really do any in depth blood work and just gave it a guess probably based on some of my symptoms. it's always about fuckin money lol
