PART ONE

Saturday night was a blast. I even got talked into going on the boat, which I ended up bailing on because I was in absolutely no condition to get out of bed at 10am. Although I'm pissed about bailing and not partying with friends, in retrospect I'm glad it turned out that way. Had I gone and been forced to wait 1-2 hours for the party to start, while still drunk/seriously hung over, I would've been mega-pissed.
I'm really pissed I missed out on Cherry Beach though. At 2pm when I got out of bed I was ready for round 2.
worst boat cruise ever. REALLY disappointing. I def. don't blame the promoters for it leaving EXTREMELY late though! The crew was awful. I'm sorry, but taking 5 mins to search every single person coming onto the boat def. slows things down....A LOT. Imagine if the boat had sold out! Holy fuck, we wouldn't have left until 4pm!
I also still don't understand the 'we're not serving until we've left the dock' thing. What was that about?!!!! Esp. considering we didn't actually leave the dock until 2pm, and boarding was at 12:30!
I realize this isn't the first time this has been done, but I don't get the point of booking the boat's headliner at FW the night before they're on the boat. It didn't seem like many ppl went to both events. They either did one, or the other. I don't know how busy FW was on Saturday, but the boat was pretty dead
at least the weather was nice....and the ppl that did come out were cool
.
PART TWO

glad I didnt go

ps. At the June Rock the Boat on the River Gambler the boat left really late but they compensated for that by having the boat out on water for longer (albeit with no sound so it was actually kind of useless). Did anything like that happen this time?
I guess I was one of the few who had a good time on the boat... lol.
Yeah, the RG did a lot of retarded things. Searching me and my wallet 3 times by 3 separate people and threatening the person a few spots in front of me because he was giving them "attitude". The non-stop announcements about "illegal substances" (because, you know, they're not just illegal, they're AGAINST BOAT POLICY!). And the timing was of course ridiculous, actual cruise time was about 3 hours not 5.
But I've gotta say, anybody who's been on any other cruises this year or even last year would have been prepared for all of this. I said to some 5 separate people, "Boarding begins 1 hour after the posted departure time, so add another half hour and we'll be leaving at 2." And we did.
The weather was actually fairly nice for a cruise and Demi was on his game. And in spite of the crowd not being huge, it was a pretty good crowd out that day, with a few truly epic/hilarious moments. I would say that expectations were met.
Anybody who wasn't prepared for the boat bullshit must not have been reading any reviews or paying attention in general for the past two summers. Honestly, it blows, but the people you should be complaining to are the city councilors for pandering to the islanders and the boat owners/captains for going way overboard (no pun intended) with the rules.

shitty for those who went.
maybe its time to stop using the river gambler as they seem to be making total assholes out of themselves this year?

JELO - HAIR CUT...???
I think whoever did make that drunk impression was indeed DRUNK or had spotted my lookalike (kamran - the afro haired version) who was also in the club that night, personally invited by myself for the occasion - and yes I can confirm I finally did have my curly wurlies cut earlier that day
as for playing hard, it's always interesting to hear other people's versions of events but i have to say one thing. If u can't take the heat, take a break out of the kitchen until you're ready to come back in - The set at footwork and the set on the boat were ALWAYS in my mind going to be two entirely different sounds and concepts so make sense of that if you will.
The reason I am making a rare post is I feel I too as the DJ have to make a comment about the boat situation that seems to have plagued many parties over the course of the summer there in your wonderful city.
The fact is, it is NOT going to be how it was, especially that very epic summer 2007 afternoon. From what I hear there are almost 2-3 weekly boat parties now each summer in Toronto....???? slight overkill no? And with the abuse of drugs and irresponsible behaviour that seems to have been an unfortunate recurring theme, I feel now that the 'novelty' of spending a special day out in the sun listening to something alternative yet equally musically and spiritually uplifting is now lost on a lot of people there
I say this because I more than anyone else that afternoon got SEARCHED INSIDE OUT - this was after an initial problem the security had with me bringing FRUIT onto the boat so I could keep myself fresh for the afternoon ahead. It was embarassing on Dwaine's part as he attempted to lecute me on how as the DJ, I should be leading by example....???? But what can you do. Unfortunately all these factors have now left a bad taste in the majority of people's mouths when it comes to deciding about whether they want to part with $30-50 of your money for this.
I had a fantastic time on Sunday especially and yes I was too a little suprised by how long I was told to 'contain myself' before they could let me play at full volume. Once things were in full swing, the party WAS in full swing. Slaps though for some people that thought I was going to play harder. That's why I did Footwork the night before - still laughing at the 'music being too hard' comment
It is unfortunately the last time I will do a boat cruise there in the city . This is something not even the promoters are to blame for but the policies that the boat now enforce....
i personally think there should be a cap on how many of these boat parties go on over the course of the summer but then again, are the boat companies not going to want to make money whenever someone or anyone wants to throw a boat party?? I doubt that very much
either way, thanks to all of you who did come to both shows and till the next time - peace...xxx

after the weekend slog behind the decks, they were very welcome thank you

it's sad that Toronto has this habit of turning good stuff into a fad and then ruining it

Hell I danced for the entire 3 hr set of yours..thank u for bringing something different/fresh into this city other than the norm
those announcements were just NASTY = as for those burgers, fuck me it was best to not even look at them and just eat them blindfolded - shameful stuff to be serving to people - bowls of fruit everywhere would have worked so much better - it's what we insist on back home when we do our SOS boat parties and had planned to feed a few pretty ladies myself with a grape or three...tut tut...lol
