Just to be clear, I'm not defending it, I'm just saying that from all accounts I've heard, it's nowhere near North Korea. And you actually hear of people getting out.

Seriously?

i would say yes, most definitely. cubans also have far higher literacy levels than those in the US. another need i would argue is being met.

cuba aint marxist utopia or anything but its sure as fuck better than north korea.

I would guess that Cuba is better and the people aren't as brainwashed as the NK's... just based on some of the documentaries I've watched. I don't know anyone from NK, but one of my best friend's wife is from Cuba- her family went through Honduras and got to the U.S. when she was 14. They live in Miami now (shocker).... but shit, the stories her and her family tell about the deplorable conditions there and the abject hopelessness are fucking sad.

Posted by gehzumteufel on Aug-25-2009 03:56:

lol I see what you did there.

Posted by Abercrombie on Aug-25-2009 04:02:

I was there last month, had a great time, and would go back in a flash. I've seen poverty, and I've seen riches. The government may suck, but the people are great, and a proud people. They know they can do better, they just can't openly talk about it. It's beautiful and historic there, so Cuba by far if compared to N.Korea

Cuba and North Korea have overcome class struggle to form societies devoid of unemployment, political infighting, and social injustice by the capitalist class. All countries should look to them as an example of what is possible!

Posted by astroboy on Aug-25-2009 05:38:

Smoking ..umm..something

Cuba is certainly a developing country and as such most people live below what we in the developed world would consider the poverty line. That said many of my friends have been there on holiday and didn't find the place depressing or tragic etc.. by all accounts they thought it was a pretty chill place.

From what I know of NK it is extremely impoverished (to the point of people dying of hunger in rural regions) and the regime there is at least as bad as what my grandparents experienced under Stalin...

If I had to choose to live in one of those places I'd choose Cuba.. no brainer.

.. also I love their cigars. Cohiba Siglo VI ftw!

Too strong for my taste... and a little hard to draw. Although most of the cigar smoking business executives I've met seem to choose this as their "go to" smoke.

Try one of these for a nice change man... a little softer and sweeter, but when you light it you know it's a Cuban

I've been enjoying the Partagas serie P No 4 lately too. tho no one else seems to like it very much

I'll give it a go but don't recognise the label.. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to cigars. What is it?

Oops.. sorry it's the Hoyo de Monterrey double corona.

I've heard good things about the Partagas No 4 and almost ordered some from my last batch... Maybe I'll get some next time. I have 3 Partagas Lusitanias but haven't tried one yet; have you smoked that one before? I got a few Siglo V's and Trinidad Robustos (which I also haven't tried), 2 Montecristo #2's, and 1 Romeo y Julieta short churchill.... I actually don't smoke that often and use them as "business currency"; it seems to make sealing the deal a little easier, especially if you break them out on the golf course. lol

Oops I actually meant the partagas #2..

Nice collection though.. I don't actually own humidor. I only smoke when I'm at a particular bar that has a good cigar collection and other people around are smoking so I don't look like a wanker :P

I don't have the luxury of access that you guys have since I'm in the States... so I gotta get pretty crafty to obtain them. I hear you though about not smoking them around other people; I'll smoke mine on my back deck or in a cigar friendly place while others are doing it too. The only thing I don't like is how afterwards, it feels like a cat shit in my mouth. I can't wait to pound a Gatorade and brush my teeth when I get home.

Sounds good man... maybe you're entrepreneurial spirit would flourish better over there? What kind of society is North Korea that anyone should be envious of? And of course there's no political infighting- if you challenge Castro's regime you're as good as dead. You should really talk to my friend from Cuba and re-think what you just said.
