Moritz von Oswald Trio - Vertical Ascent (Pattern 3) [+ video]

Off the Vertical Ascent album release earlier this year on Honest Jon's Records, Pattern 3 is an interesting dubby minimalist jazzy ambient percussion-driven experimental excursion by the Moritz von Oswald Trio plus cool music video cut by the 29.nov.films splicing samples from old movies/shows. Trippy. Not for the average TA. This track is brilliant from a sound design aspect too. Four skillfully crafted compositions on this album. Have yet to hear the other three but after hearing this I'm really excited to.

That Echospace epic is a melter...heard it on a trip to Glacier Nat'l Park a few years back and it fit the natural landscape to a "T." I'm glad I wasn't driving, as I might have lost conscious control of the vehicle looking off into the distance.

"Vertical Ascent" was very cool, only I didn't hear much in the way of "jazz" in the composition.

Veritcal Ascent is incredible. You want to listen to this music when its quiet and dark and there's no background noise. A great deal of subtlety in it. The whole release is excellent!

The guys from the29.nov.films did the video for Pattern 4 I'm finding. Not as interesting of a listen musically imo compared to Pattern 3, but has some incredible moments. There's a lot of subtlety and detail in this. Decide for yourself. That's half the album. How are Patterns 1 and 2, Mark?

Maybe not in the traditional sense, but it feels like it to me in the bassline and the improvisational structure of the track. To each his own.
