looks like we're going to miss it
BEST SHOW OF 09 HANDS DOWN.

I really liked Filter, wasn't so much a fan of what Desyn was playing, no funk at all really.
Can't wait for Joris in there, I love the dark semi-dingy feel of the club. Ceiling is going to be legit.
Filter was neat. Can't wait to see the LED ceiling get installed in there.
As for Desyn, he was awful. He just played boring geeked out goomba stomp house. There was no flow or build to anything, just plodding and chugging about.
really I enjoyed his set quite much I mean it wasnt classic desyn but it was still a great set IMO.
anyone catch any tracks from that night ?
I had some days to digest what happened, and I have some questions.
Did Desyn clear the floor? The LED lights behind the booth made it hard to tell when the switch happened, but the starting DJ ended being the closing DJ.
How long did Desyn really play?
I was rather disappointed that he didn't drop any hot fire, but overall, I thought he did well, just nothing out of the ordinary.
The extra subwoofer in the back really helped the sound. Best sound I've heard in that place. Again though, the high frequencies were too bright and overpowering. This is probably due to us being in a small place underground... The best sweet spot was under the speakers and in front of the subwoofer in the back.
It was grrrrreat to see everyone! Until next time.
Sad to hear the bad reviews, but not surprised. DJs nowadays don't bring the funk anymore. Its not the 'in' sound.

I'm sure his set wasn't as bad as people are making it out to be. I haven't heard him let people down yet that bad. Maybe you guys were expecting more "techno" as it seems that's all half of you comment on or about on here anyways in the Atl section. He rocked a drum and bass set at electric zoo and i loved the little i heard of it. He rocked it simply to be different due to about a hundred artist booked all within a 4/4 sequence of one form or another. He took a step out and it worked. Desyn.....drum and bass....who knew.

2) I guess I miss the staff at the Mark. I do not believe that I will be going back there much now. The door girl was just an outright bitch. We got there at 11:15. Stood outside for 13 min because they could not get the list together. We were at the counter for 5 min before she would get off the cell phone while trying to look up some goomba on the list (who was not on there). Then when we got to her at 11:32pm, she looked at her phone and said we were after 11:30m so the list was closed. If it wasn't for the fact that we had so many friends there, I would have told her to shove it. It is not a matter of being cheap, it is a matter of principal.

The bar staff (except for one black guy) was rude as hell. They could not get the prices right, I was charged three different prices for the same drink. In one case, I had ordered 4 drinks, turned around to hand three to friends, when I turned back around the bar back or bartender had thrown away the other FULL drink. The bartender said, "What do you expect us to do about it?!?". Just poor business and not the way to treat the few patrons you have left in the Atlanta market. Left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth and is really hard to recommend to people to give it a try.

3) The sound was good (improvement over what was there before) and I might come back to check out when you get the LEDs up.
Oh, I was charged 9 dollars for a vodka + red bull, is that supposed to happen?

Yeah i mean people's sound varies through time. I can't think of hardly anyone who stays sounding the same through out time. That's just not logical. Everyone from Hawtin to Zabiela to Digweed all change. I think thats' understood by all of us. I mean, yeah his more funkier sets back a few years back were top notch. I own many of them from that time. I guess he's going to playing more peak time sets these days....which i personally like as well but i have a wide range of taste. Are you guys downing his set cause it was more peak time and harder progressive based , or was it simply just bad ?
and his drum and bass set was wikid...no tear out shit at all. More of the Hospital records sound. REALLY GOOD SHIT.
It was great seeing so many people again. Really, was like a family reunion.
Desyn did pretty well. I'd give his set a B+ and I've been a fan for a long time.
I'm glad he went darker. Nothing spectacular, but the Age of Love remix he played made the night.
The lights were more of a distraction which may have driven people off the floor as they were so much to look at. Not sure why the floor cleared, but I like a smaller crowd. Makes it easier for moving around and enjoying the whole space.
The sub in the back needed some tweaking as it was a bit farty sounding. The highs were a bit bright and some tweaking in the mid range would help balance the spectrum.
The upstairs bar staff seemed pretty rude, especially the girl. The drinks weren't that strong either, but that's no surprise with any club.
I like the cosmetic revamp. The place felt like a Star Wars Cantina, lol.
All in all, it was a good night to reconnect at The Mark to a nice dark prog set.
