I lost my accent fully when I was about 13. A lot of times though, if I'm speaking with someone from Eastern Europe, they will ask me if I am from their part of the world. I guess I still have a tiny hint of a Polish accent and they sense it.

The name Ania is a dead giveaway too.

Posted by boris_the_bear on Sep-08-2009 13:27:

you mean you have a perfect English accent without any signs of Polish?

Posted by Ania_xox on Sep-08-2009 13:39:

That's what everyone tells me

(except random strangers from Ukraine, Russia, or former Yugo)

I get Italian sometimes too. No clue why. I am pale as a powder in the winter.

Ricky Hatton had a fight out here and got knocked out. When I was walking out to the casino all these Pacquiao fans kept telling me to have a good flight home while they lol'd.

Little did they know...

The only thing that really makes me mexican is the way I look, other than that I might as well be white lol. Basically, when I say I don't like mexicans I never really feel like I'm hating "my people" even though I guess technically I am.

What I really hate are mexican kids born and raised in the US (like myself) that mix spanish and english. That shit's just annoying.

Actually, if you talk like this, it shows you're a pretty damn competent in both languages (if you weren't I bet you wouldn't have bothered to say "tenemos" instead of "tener"). There's this farmer I know that mixes Japanese and Portuguese frenetically as she speaks - it's unbelievably amazing (and rather hard to follow ).

ORRRrrr you are just constantly, culturally surrounded by others who exhibit the exact same linguistic idiosyncrasies, and have been raised that way all of their lives.

//we don't need no tenses!

Nigguuhhhhhhh.

Posted by Zild on Sep-08-2009 15:23:

spanglish is just word swapping by people who were educated in english speaking schools and raised by spanish speaking adults

The environment does play a role - but, if he didn't speak Spanish at all, he wouldn't conjugate his verbs properly when he switched codes. And, if he didn't speak English properly... well, you get the picture.

i thought they were nuts assuming i was spanish, but they would explain that there are a lot of light skinned/freckled cubans or argentinians too, which i didn't know.

There are also hispanic people from Chile, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, etc, who look just like you.

Pretty much every latino country.
