yeah definitely have to pick your spots for edm parties in waterloo

that being said, if your gf is in res you can probably throw down a decent party on your own, especially this weekend being the end of frosh week

uw has a massive toga party on saturday night... theyre strict about outsiders getting in but if you do that's quite an experience. laurier is just full of kids gettin drunk

140 west next to caesars will play some electro, but their saturday dj is pretty garbage. friday the guy might play some edm but not intentionally

good luck finding a jam though

LOL, thanks, I heard that KW is a shit place to party and looks like my friends were right. I guess I'll have to tell her to come to my place instead of me going there. It really sucks there is no decent place to listen to good house music. If I was going there for school I would be throwing the best parties ever hahahaha

So from what people have been saying, purple room might be the only place that could have some form of EDM. Theme parties are over-rated and I bet most of the people there are kids so I'm not really interested in that. I would prefer a more mature crowd and good house music. Looks like KW isnt my town...what a shame...my girlfriend is stuck there for 3 years.

even purple room is risky... i heard it's going to be re-branded as like a reggae/soca/dancehall room

not sure when that takes effect, or if it already has

too bad you couldnt come to mstrkrft last night. my ears are still ringing

guelph might be a good option for you

hatiras is playing there tonight, and they have LA riots on fri for like $10 i think. it's like a 25 min drive to get there from waterloo

I would have hit that up for sure or at least tell my girl to go there. She went to some shitty school party and was texting me all night saying how shit the dj was and how the music sucked. HAHAHAHAH

I feel so bad for her now.

wack

there are some ok parties but they are sporadic. weekly edm events always fail very quickly here, which sucks but just seems to be the way it is for now

there is absolutly nothing in the tri-cities regarding electronic music. Elements is all ages club so that one is completly out of a question. I think this is why i wanna move back to mississauga.

Do you go to UW?

Seriously I'm disappointed with the lack of a edm scene there. So what do you do for fun?

Posted by hax-a-million on Sep-11-2009 06:07:

just graduated from uw, but i'm up here this week to promote the mstrkrft event

mostly just did my own events while i was up here, or went to house parties where they played good tunes or had djs. i'm from toronto so going down there was always an option

if you really want to go out to a bar i'd probably suggest Starlight on friday... saturday isn't bad either but a bit too top 40 sometimes. it's on king st in uptown waterloo, surrounded by a lot of pubs

if you go to caesars you will find tons of hot easy broads

Purple Room on Fridays used to be trance/house/prog but they changed it starting this September. It's now reggae shit on Fridays.

On Saturdays though, it's 21+ and it's house music, and there's usually a good amount of people that go, plus it's a more mature crowd. They usually have pretty decent DJs there on Saturdays, and it's your only place to hear house music in the tri-cities pretty much. Check it out a few different times though, just in case there's a bad DJ when you first go or something. I've heard a lot of awesome DJs there spinning dark and dirty stuff, so give it a chance. I've been there some nights when there wasn't many people and the DJ was meh, but I've also been other times when it's packed and the DJ is fackin awesome, so yea, just give it a chance lol. If I ever want to stay local and go out some where, that's usually the day I go with friends, and the place I go.

Speaking of PR, I haven't been since February or something. Gotta plan another Saturday trip there

Posted by PurpleHaze on Sep-11-2009 18:32:

we need more pre-drink/drink only nights at dans, we used to get so sloppy...ahahahah

Posted by Yohan on Sep-12-2009 22:57:

problem with scene in KW is that there is enough EDM listeners out there, but it's just people have too much varying taste to consistently support a night

and they get annoyed with n00bs that like z103 commercial EDM

plus Toronto being only an hour away, why would you want to spend the weekend in KW, when toronto scene is way better?

man, this year's laurier frosh are smokin!

was gonna stop for a chuck change carwash, but was in a hurry

heh, i often wonder is ppl still throw EDM events in the southwestern area. It used to be pretty live back in 2002
