i finally listened to them, it was worth a wait, because i had the ultimate darkpsy experience

i was on my bike again, but this time i was climbing a mountain from ~3:30 to ~6:00am. try to imagine this forest at night with no light except for a little LED lamp, when you can only hear the sounds of dark psy, and you don't see (or hear) any thing else but the tree silhouettes.

the trippiest moment was when i had to stop for a couple of minutes to chill down, but i kept my heaphones on for the full experience

anyway now about the mixes themself:

Yin was pure awesomeness no matter what you think, i was warned about the trainwrecks so they didn't mess up my flow at all. the part @ 170BPM(Edit: 178 fuuuck! pure torture, but in a positive way, just awesome ) was mental , that was really awesome! energy was flowing all the time! track selection is a killer!

Yang came as a chilling(compared o Yin) beautiful dawn experience, but still energetic, track selection here was also great, i really enjoyed this set too(though i prefer darker styles).

i saved some of yang for the descend(merely 20 minutes), that was epic!

sets were really trippy, filled with energy coming from great tracks, sadly those errors were present but they didn't make much of a impact.

i can't be any more constructive then this, i only listen to this kind of sets a couple of times a month, so i'm not that experienced. but i can tell you this: this was definitely one of my favorite musical/road experiences in my life!

You just made my day, dude, all the work is totally worth it for such awesome experiences like that! Sounds like Yin almost made you wreck your bike! I'm so happy that you listened to both of them on your bike, I knew that it would be worth it! Hi Zip, please take this as constructive criticism, no offence. Despite what others here have said, trainwrecks ruin sets. Doesn't matter how good the tunes are, if they're mixed badly, it sounds bad. There's really no excuses.
I did have a listen to these and although I like some of the tunes, the trainwrecks turn me right off. So here's my tip, practice your sets a bit more before posting.

Okay, I downloaded Yin's Revenge ages ago but only got a chance to listen to it tonight. Sorry dude, can't say I enjoyed this one too much, but that's mostly due to the fact that my taste in music has changed a lot over the past six months or so. I've become positively sick of most full-on stuff. This progressed way beyond that, too. The darkpsy was a bit much for me; too fast and too much going on.

Also, while you definitely had a solid sense of progression throughout this piece, I wasn't a fan of the almost instantaneous start. With exceptions, I generally like gentle introductions into sets which build a sense of anticipation.

As mentioned, the mixing was also an issue. I understand that it's very frustrating when you're 40 minutes into a mix and fuck up, but surely it would be better to have a second go than finish with something you know isn't your best work?

Okay, I've been very harsh so far, but the good stuff: you seem to have shaken the cheese bug altogether! All these tracks were respectable, even if I didn't like them. Also, you seem to have dug pretty deep and found some more uncommon artists for this set, which is more than can be said for many DJs, including myself. Great work there.

Just persevere with your mixing and you will be sweet. You've got track selection and flow down perfectly now, even if this particular brand of music doesn't appeal to me much anymore.

I actually told a lie in that post. For fucking months I have been trying to piece together a two hour, double CD mix with the first being darker, moody prog-psy and the second pumping industrial/EBM and full-on. I've had very little success and nothing I try seems to 'fit'.

Tonight I finally made the agonising decision to cut some tracks and condense to a single 60 or 70 minute mix. I've pulled out a couple of my old darkpsy/industrial CDs for some tracks to use in the latter half.

I think I'll be done in a couple of weeks.

These sets weren't really designed to start off slow, although Yang had a bit of a relaxed track to start with. Yin was supposed to start off hard and finish nasty, but that one track completely ruined my set, and I feel completely worthless because of it. I had two mixes to spin in one day, with my busy schedule, I couldn't stop everything and try again, I just didn't have enough time.

If there is enough demand, I will try to do Yin again, but I feel extremely disappointed because of how many people I let down. Sorry, everyone.

Hey don't beat yourself up too much, it's all part of a learning curve to becoming a really good DJ. Just stick at it and be patient mate coz you definitely play some good music.
Finding time to consistently post good mixes is is also hard for myself, but shaking the mentality that close enough is good enough is really only going to benefit ourselves. Like Domesticated mentioned, it gets really frustrating when you fuck up a long way into a set, but as you would know its rewarding to finally complete a tight solid set that you can be proud of. I've been trying to make another set since July, and haven't been happy enough with my results to want to post anything yet. But I'll persevere and hopefully it should be up in the next week or so.
I didn't mean to be completley negative and I reckon you should have another crack making a mix with these tunes coz there are some bombs and I'd definitely enjoy it.

I probably would have benefited from trying again, but since most of the people here have heard it and given their thoughts, there is probably no need to try again. If you ignore the trainwrecks created by that one track, most of the mixing is relatively acceptable.

I am pleased with how these two sets turned out, but I know that I can do better. Despite the mixing problems, I think I will just move on from here to my next set, which is going to be a progressive monster. Stay tuned!

Tracks were wikkid, really enjoyed them, but on the whole I have to echo Mag's comments below:

Finally managed to hear these sets today and here's my take on both of em:

Yang's Redemption: Marvelous set with loads of melodic full-on psy tunage packed with very trancey elements. Perfect for dancefloors! \o/ Great track selection and flow overall (((d(-_-)b)))

Yin's Revenge: The dark counterpart to Yang's Redemption: I enjoyed the build-up from dark full-on to insane killer dark psy very much...especially at near the end where the bpm of the final track sounded like it peaked out @ 200+ BPM.....Whoazers O_O Track selection and transitions were done quite well....other than some slight offbeatness earlier within the set that many others have already pointed out. but that can be overlooked easily as darkpsy is quite challenging to mix.

If i had to choose which set i liked best, my vote would go to Yang's Redemption as, it stood out the most imo.

Fine job well done on this double psy compilation Zippy! I'll be adding both of these mixes to blank CDs later.
